We literally just beat a top 10 team to take control of the SEC behind an ELECTRIC crowd of 109,000(the 12th Man was absolutely willing this team to victory), and you're complaining about the atmosphere? Ridiculous take. Never change TexAgs.

I have to imagine that most of the people against the DJ haven't stepped foot in Kyle in a while. Saturday night was absolutely electric and the DJ played a role in creating that environment.

Sorry today's students don't like exactly what you did 40 years ago.

Two things can be true at once- deep baselines from trash music blared over the PA contributed to an electrifying atmosphere at times. It's also true that the DJ undermines the band and yells, thereby making Kyle Field more of a generic CFB or NFL experience, while an electrifying atmosphere is possible at Kyle Field without a DJ (see 2018 LSU, 2017 AL, 2010 Nebraska).

Great topic. I'm Class of '90 Gen X and if we're not playing Sheck Wes or something similar in '24-25, we are killing the game experience for today's students. Balance, compromise, and timing is the answer. I would hope the PA/DJ and Aggie Band brass meet weekly to work on timing and "choreograph." There's way too much at stake for not working together for 100K+ fans.

I'm an old dude who always said "back in the ol army days, we only needed our yelling and the band!" And that was true then. Hated the DJ when they started it.

But I've totally come around on this now. If you watch the students when the DJ gets it going, it is amazing how much they are loving it. It really adds to the atmosphere and takes the whole Kyle experience up to 11.

Saturday was peak Kyle Field, and the DJ was a huge part.

Incorrect, the gameday experience with a DJ is significantly better than when I was in school without a DJ. That said, they can be better about coordinating between the band/yell leaders.
Many olds don't want to admit it, but this is the truth. I remember all of those lethargic 11am games during the Fran era. The DJ would have helped us power through those sad times.

I have no comment on the dj as I haven't gotten back for a game since their appearance.

But I was there for the first 3 years of Fran… losing sucked, but everyone around me was always full of energy (angry counts). What was to power through? Win or lose you still hung out with 36K of your closest friends for 4 hours on a Saturday. And when it was a beautiful day - what else could you ask for ? (You know besides a Time Machine to stop the hiring of Fran)

Do away with the DJ.
your opinion matters less than 5 star recruits that love the gameday atmosphere, because you like wins more than you hate the dj.

I only go to a game once a year. Therefore, my opinion may be ignored, which is fine. Also, I be old, so I have that going against me as well.

However, even with my old age, and not knowing the majority of the songs played...the DJ killed it! Even my 72-year old mom stood up and got jiggy!

In summary, after experiencing it first hand, I am cool with the DJ!

The DJ plays fun music. It's a good atmosphere in Kyle Field. I get it. But can we get a break from the remixes and give the student section and yell leaders a chance to do some yells? We didn't even get to do a BTHO LSU once the game started. Non stop club music.

I'm not saying do away with the DJ. Just give us some room for tradition. Nickelback remixes are not what made this university great. Tradition is. It's one of the most commonly cited reasons for folks coming to this school. Am I alone on this?
yes u are alone. It's ok that u like your experience during your time. And if the experience Saturday was not up to par well cool too. But nothing was wrong with it and it doesn't have to revert back because it's different for u. Actually they probably didn't even have the equipment to even do it back then.

We should have the DJ perform at half time instead of the band.

Like everything else the DJ is more fun when we are winning. The 4th quarter mostly felt like a party. When we are losing the DJ can be irritating.

Right, that's what has prevented us from having a "championship program" !!!!! So I guess you think a DJ and cRAP "music" is the answer ? Then all we need is the right DJ and the right music ! Sure....... like Dr. Pepper Larry says "just keep on believin'"......

No, I didn't say that's what has prevented us from winning championships. What I am saying is that it hasn't helped us win any championships. There is a difference.

Again, as I said in a previous post, I want what the players want. And if the players want a DJ and music I wouldn't listen to anywhere but Kyle Field, then it's good by me.

We can say Kyle Field is just like any other stadium now that we have a DJ, but that's simply not true. There are PLENTY of things that make Kyle Field unique. Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Florida, etc. all have piped in music over the PA, but are any of those venues even close to having the same atmosphere as Kyle? No. No they are not.

Kyle Field (and us crazy, passionate Aggie fans) will always be Kyle Field. Let the current generation of students make this their A&M...just like we made it our A&M when we were in school.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

It has to suck to be in the Aggie Band these days. You march in, and do a halftime drill, and get to play the War Hymn and Spirit of Aggieland and wildcat a handful of times, but have to listen to rap music the rest of the game.
The band still plays, and the DJ defers to them whenever they do play. After the NCAA changed the rules about when bands could play in 1986 (ask the SMU band about that rule), you hear the FTAB a lot less than you used to. I think the mix is about right. They should probably mic the band up a bit so that you can hear them throughout the stadium (it's hard to hear any band if they aren't playing in your direction).

That ***** DeLoss Dodds made the rule after the 1985 blowout at Kyle Field. The Aggie Band took every opportunity to play when the opponents had the ball.

I vividly remember SMU getting that 15 yard penalty that gave us a 1st down and eventually won the game at Texas Stadium.

Actually 85 years ago we won a national championship.

It's probably been more of a player/coaching issue for not winning then the band playing Noble Men of Kyle

I'm 61 and the DJ is fine.

And we did do BTHO during the game. Why the hell fo we have to do it three times in a row?

I like wildcatting and making as much noise as possible but squads left doesn't make more noise. I was a ct too so it's not like I have a dislike for yell leaders. I just want it loud.

I don't care one way or the other about the DJ but I would like more balance. The thing I don't like is how every second of the game has to be noise. There is no chance to just sit and talk to your neighbor without screaming at the top of your lungs.

I'm class of '88. I remember often complaining and getting wide agreement from other Aggies on too many yells, or more specifically the Yell Leaders deciding to do more yells between possessions, or for too long as the opposing offense was getting started. The complaint was that it disrupted the din of noise and took momentum away from the 12th Man in creating havoc for the other team.

Sounds like the DJ is doing the opposite of that. The most important thing of all in the Kyle Field experience is the wall of noise the 12th Man and the rest of the crowd makes to disrupt opposing offenses.

It sounds like yells are being done at appropriate times, I hope that continues, but priority 1 is unparalleled noise.

I agree with this. In general, I'm not crazy about the DJ but will admit that, especially for night games, it gets the students involved and absolutely contributed to the fun Saturday night. It was also a good way to overshadow the obnoxious LSU band.

But there were 2 or 3 times on Saturday night that the crowd was going nuts and yelling BEFORE the DJ started the music. When the music stopped with 15 seconds left on the play clock, the crowd was definitely quieter than when the music started.

Then can we at least make them less...um..."flouncy"?

Nice word. I am good with them as they are.

Fun fact: Not sure this still how it is but the head Yell Leader would suit up for Two a Days. Tough. Lots of respect.

I can assure you none of today's yell leaders are suiting up for football practice. You know how I know? Because they're still alive. Those dudes would get killed on a football practice field. And I mean literally killed.
