They may prove to be the best, but by absolutely no means have they done anywhere close to enough to prove it thus far.

They have played some absolutely atrocious offenses. Miss State is statistically the best offense they have faced. By quite a bit, actually 71st in scoring and 77th in total. I think 4 of their 6 opponents are 100+, and the 5th is 94th or 95th.

And if they are the best, it certainly isn't by a mile. There's no team in the country right now that stands out from the rest of the pack. Many teams could win it all. This isn't close to a 2019 LSU or 2020 Bama situation.

Honestly, if anyone truly deserves the #1 status it should be Oregon. Even they don't deserve "by a mile" given their uber close win over Ohio St

And ATM is losing 3 games before then. Mississippi rolls by several touchdowns. So Alabama/Georgia championship rematch?

0 chance Texas makes the playoffs after we beat them 70+.

I'm seriously wondering if missing out on the SEC championship is a better scenario than going there and losing. Do we think a 3 loss SEC championship runner up gets in over a two loss team that didn't make the championship? In our scenario, I could see people saying "well they lost to Texas twice, they had their shot" and I would have a hard time arguing with that.

I doubt it, but if this season turns into another 2007 during the BCS era when LSU won the natty with 2 losses it could happen.

A&M needs to go to Atlanta and play for an SEC title to get the monkey off its back. It would be a huge step for the program regardless of the result, as much as it would suck to lose and potentially miss out on a playoff spot. Win and you're on a gravy train with biscuit wheels.

This is nothing new, though, considering most losers in Atlanta haven't advanced anyway. Georgia was arguably the best team in the country last year and still missed the playoff after barely losing to Bama.
