There was a lot to like today. Conner making elite throws, good OL play, Moss looking like an NFL back, and the DL and secondary stepping up.

However, the thing I am most excited about was the effort and team first mentality that was there all day, but really showed up at the end of the game when Missouri was trying to score in garbage time. Our D would have nothing of it. They were flying around, playing together, and doing everything they could to prevent a meaningless touchdown.

To me this shows that Elko has changed the culture. It's not an elite product yet (although today was pretty dang good), but I am really encouraged by the way this team is coming together as a group. If they stay together and keep improving and playing for each other, they could make this season a lot of fun.

I agree. Great effort. Tackling wasn't perfect but everyone was flying to the ball ready to gang tackle

I enjoyed it too, but make no mistake, we are elite!

We may not know it yet, or executing in the exemplary range of grading, but this is THE best assembled total talent we've ever had.

If we start executing to our potential, we will charge into the playoffs.

I don't think that was an Elko idea. He usually plays pretty conservatively in those situations to minimize injuries (playing starters when up big). I think that was probably the players. I wonder if they went to Elko and told him they didn't want to let Mizzou score. And if I'm Elko, and they came to me with that attitude, there's no way I'm not letting them play. That's not something you want to tamper down. You want that on the field for the remainder of the season!

I was proud of the team and I think it showed their character. With that character, maybe 11-1 is possible.

Um, secondary "stepping up"????
Tap the brakes there, chief…..there's a LOT to clean up on that end….

A LOT…..

The D just needed to see a glimmer of hope from the Offense! They will play there butts off now!

Yes!!! That was just like getting an encore at the of a concert. Like another mini game or side bet challenge. So great!

Team has played hard since the opening snap against The Irish. Very encouraging.

Agree that the Def was great at times, but we still had guys WIDE open and the refs bailed us out many times.

On the TD scramble and pass Elko was screaming a profanity laced tirade into his mic and then he pulled #10 aside and ripped into him.

A better team capitalizes on all of those mistakes we made. That said our defense is good.

I can remember Dumbo's teams where is seemed our CBs were only in the general area of the WRs.

These guys are on top of the WRs most of the time.

Great Win!

Things that drive me mad:

The drive that stalled because the coaches couldn't call the play in and we get a FG instead of a TD to go to 34 pts not 37. Inexcusable.

The next drive was just as bad a CF. Keep doing what got you where you are. Don't take your foot off the gas.

I get it, milk the clock, but don't look like a clown show doing it.

Great win all around.

You guys expect perfection, but understand we held a potentially explosive offense to 10 (really 7) points. Our secondary held their own against two really talented receivers. Our DL helped with the pressure, but secondary was good yesterday.

rankings are fun, they give us something to talk about in August… but they really shouldn't come out until about week 6-7 of the season… Mizzou is a good team, but not #9…. very nice win for us, but Mizzou will prove to be not all that. i think the O played very well… defense was very good too, except secondary.. #8 Hill still has no clue

If you watch the end of that series, Elko comes out and high-fives with the D. I mean he was pumped. He later referred to it in his presser about how pleased he was that the D didn't let down at the very end.

Elko has changed the culture ... we say this all the time but most of the time culture change has lost its meaning

but in this time...Elko has changed

Just see his defense of CW in his post game presser. he was very passionate in defending his QB CW.

that type of behavior, his player will notice and not forget

Elko will be CW's "the coach" forever...

Solid post. It was a lot of fun yesterday, not just because we dismantled Mizzou but because we played up to our potential in all phases and all were dialed in from towel boys to Elko.

With our D, I like our chances against anybody we line up against.....except maybe Vandy

What we had was beautiful - A defense and offense that won the game.

I was saying the same thing at the end. They were locked in on not letting Mizzou score a TD on that last drive. It was important to them and to the coaches even though it was meaningless wrt final outcome . I think the culture is changing.

And don't fail to mention the quality of tackling is much better too. People actually wrapping up rather than just shoulder blows. Fundamentally sound.

Top 20 offense (#37 passing offense and #26 rushing offense) just got humiliated by our defense.

13 for 31 (41.9% completion) for less than 200 yards.

It's so great this team has "fans" like you to talk them down.

I agree that the secondary wasn't perfect by any means, but they were much better than I expected against the two Mizzou studs. Yes they got help from the DLine, but defense is a team effort and any secondary can be helped or hurt by the pressure that is put in the QB.

Overall, Lee was better than he has been against better talent. Mayes is playing at a much higher level in his new spot, and Dalton Brooks stayed on the field for four quarters, which is a huge help.

They aren't Glenn, Mickens, and Bates, but they are improving, deep, and won't play many groups better than Mizzou's receiving corps, so I am encouraged.

That performance was elite.

Not transcendent- but elite.

"We" aren't elite until we do it for a season.

We aren't transcendent until we win it all.
