Looks like my fall schedule will have a lot more time now... Can't believe that DirectTV is fighting with ESPN/Disney at the start of football season!

You still won't get it. It's a direct tv issue. Also streaming isn't cheaper like it used to be
I will never touch anything that Direct Tv offers again. You can get Youtube Tv and get ESPN. You can get ESPN + app for $10 per month.WoMD said:Aggie2 said:

Like Directv Stream?

DTV went to hell when AT&T bought them. AT&T is like sips. They destroy everything they touch.

Think I'm safe this year w Dish.
But would really like to have to Option where I don't have to pay for ANY OF THE DISNEY Stuff.

Since Disney owns ESPN I think we're SOL on that one. Unfortunately.
SOMEONE gets it.Kenneth_2003 said:
ESPN gets into this fight it seems with a different content provider every year. This year is Direct TV. I think last year it was Dish, pair to that it was Spectrum.
Lots of good discussion about this in the past but I'm sure the short version of this is ESPN wants more cash for the "privilege" of carrying their content and Direct TV (AT&T) knows they've got to, at the minimum, moderate monthly bill creep.
For everyone of us that religiously watch live sports there are plenty that never tune in to a single game. The cord cutting move has probably plateaued, but everyone that cut the cord, without a sports package, cuts into ESPN revenue. Sure some streaming services have some/all sports but plenty do not.
One of two things will have to happen. Consumers of live sports pay more. Or A LOT of salary and promotional dollars will have to leave live sports.
So everyone screaming today, turn back on my ESPN, how many will turn around in 6 months begging a customer retention representative to lower their bill?

Nope, not as of right now. That's trying to change, but was blocked in court I believe (assuming as a temporary measure). Regardless, it is likely to be an option in the future. But for now, you're tied to a provider if you want to watch real espn. ESPN+ on its own is a completely separate service, and there is no overlap with espn programming (at least with games that people care about) without subscribing to a service provider. They really were stupid when naming it that, seeing as how many years later, and we're still having so many people confused about what they're paying for.

The timing is on purpose. ESPN-Disney knows they have the leverage.
