Looks like my fall schedule will have a lot more time now... Can't believe that DirectTV is fighting with ESPN/Disney at the start of football season!

They fight with everybody. Start streaming. Way cheaper.

They were advertising on Dish and encouraging us to change over. They didn't mention that if we had DirectTV that we wouldn't be seeing that ad or game.

In the same boat here. I think Youtube TV has a 21 day free trial. I know if you go to tvpromise.com and follow the links you get a whopping $20 bill credit. I will try calling Directv today to report back if you can get a higher discount

ESPN gets into this fight it seems with a different content provider every year. This year is Direct TV. I think last year it was Dish, pair to that it was Spectrum.

Lots of good discussion about this in the past but I'm sure the short version of this is ESPN wants more cash for the "privilege" of carrying their content and Direct TV (AT&T) knows they've got to, at the minimum, moderate monthly bill creep.

For everyone of us that religiously watch live sports there are plenty that never tune in to a single game. The cord cutting move has probably plateaued, but everyone that cut the cord, without a sports package, cuts into ESPN revenue. Sure some streaming services have some/all sports but plenty do not.

One of two things will have to happen. Consumers of live sports pay more. Or A LOT of salary and promotional dollars will have to leave live sports.

So everyone screaming today, turn back on my ESPN, how many will turn around in 6 months begging a customer retention representative to lower their bill?

The timing is on purpose. ESPN-Disney knows they have the leverage.

Good thing we're not 100% linked to one POS company to carry literally every game for an entire conference for an entire season. Poor BIG...

You still won't get it. It's a direct tv issue. Also streaming isn't cheaper like it used to be

Finally got through after 15 miunute hold, threatened to cancel, they gave the $20 credit and also offered a $200 Visa reward card but have to maintain service for 60 days. I guess I will signup for free Youtube for 21 days.

Seriously been thinking about switching/cutting. Bill just went up again, I have a box ****ting the bed and they want me to pay $20 to have a new one shipped to me, and they have that dumbass live sports fed they tack on when I can't even watch live sports right now.

I know. I was trying to be sarcastic in response to the streaming comment since that isn't necessarily a viable solution when Disney plays these games with everyone regularly, but that never works online.

And yes, my streaming service is impacted, but at least the login credentials worked for the espn app on my Apple TV last night so I could watch the game, but it didn't work on my iPad. Go figure.

And no, it's absolutely not cheaper anymore. My grandfathered plan is at $100 a month now, which is actually discounted from what it would otherwise be. It was great at one point, but now the only benefit is being able to watch anywhere. It's no longer a good deal though.

I will never touch anything that Direct Tv offers again. You can get Youtube Tv and get ESPN. You can get ESPN + app for $10 per month.

Switched last week from DTV Stream to Hulu. I'd had DTV for the Cardinals and Royals games (I live in MO). I'm saving $32 per month switching, so I bought MLB.TV. Using that and VPN, I can watch every game and still come out ahead.

ESPN/Disney want an insane amount of money (probably because they pay insane amounts for the rights to college and pro sports). If the DirectTV and others just give in to the high prices, then everyone will just pay more for their cable/satellite/streaming. People NEED to start pushing back against the high prices.

DTV went to hell when AT&T bought them. AT&T is like sips. They destroy everything they touch.

Since Disney owns ESPN I think we're SOL on that one. Unfortunately.

Umm...are all these replies serious? Texags really needs to sticky at the top of the page a thread, or post some sort of public announcement in all of the sports boards, about what espn+ actually gets you (which is crap...soccer, rugby, intramural, ping pong, etc) and what it doesnt get you (all sports that Americans actually want to watch, with the one exception being college baseball). The fact that these posts are still seriously made is pretty impressive, especially by more than one poster on a thread. Unless everyone is joking about it, which is acceptable.

Thank the SEC braintrust for tying us to that POS company for the rest of our lifetimes. We got played while the BIG is laughing at us for this stupidity.

SOMEONE gets it.

The issue isn't the carriers. It's the damn networks bending the carriers over a barrel at the most opportune time for them in order to extort more money from the carrier. Bc they know the torches and pitchforks from the consumer aren't gonna be directed at them. People want to shoot the messenger. You think the carriers WANT to have people canceling at warp speed? Meanwhile Disney gets to throw their little hands up and go "look what the big meanies are doing to you."

Was it a year or maybe two ago that Belo/CBS pulled this same crap about 3 days before March Madness started? They know what they're doing and they're well versed in using misdirected anger.

I'm not gonna lie, they've been off air for about 36 hrs and I haven't missed them one bit. I'm tired of their woke politics driven BS anyway, in addition to their constant fellating of anything related to our arch rivals to the west. Good riddance AFAIC. But we all know how this is gonna end. Carrier has to cave. Higher rates ensue.

With streaming you are not locked into a large cancelation fee if you drop them so if ESPN holds out on YTTV or Hulu you switch to the one who has its get all the same content.

Nope, not as of right now. That's trying to change, but was blocked in court I believe (assuming as a temporary measure). Regardless, it is likely to be an option in the future. But for now, you're tied to a provider if you want to watch real espn. ESPN+ on its own is a completely separate service, and there is no overlap with espn programming (at least with games that people care about) without subscribing to a service provider. They really were stupid when naming it that, seeing as how many years later, and we're still having so many people confused about what they're paying for.

Wasn't the SEC championship game on CBS when Tegna blocked DirecTV from carrying their local affiliates? Think that's when I ran over to Home Depot and got an antenna.

I signed up for the 21 day free trial of Youtubetv last night to watch the FSU/BC game, no complaints. Wasnt that hard to figure out for this stuck in time old man who never uses Smart TV functions/apps.

SEC needs to pressure ESPN/Disney not to pull this carp on their fans. The nice thing about having an over the air broadcaster (CBS) as your main broadcaster, most fans can bypass the cable/satellite/streaming vampires by using the ol' antenna. I know it doesn't help the rural folks but at least it's an alternative to the Espn testicle squeeze.
