College football is fighting an uphill battle against the NFL for TV viewership. The NFL has completely taken over Thanksgiving day. It owns Monday night since the beginning. Thursday night has become a two game NFL night. Only college programs desperate for attention will agree to go up against the NFL on Thursday evenings. The 3 dog first round 12 team playoff matchups didn't entrench the college playoffs in the minds of the casual football fans. In fact it turned a lot of potential
Fans off, by the selections and the piss poor play.
This week the nfl is solidifying its wildcard spots in their playoff system, while college football is trying save the decaying bowl system amid opts outs and portal transfers in order to to keep its product out there to promote the 2nd round of the CFP.
It's surprising to say but I am more interested in what the matchups are in the NFL to challenge the chiefs, Bills, Ravens, packers, Vikings than I am the CFP.
Somehow college football has totally crapped the bed with conference realignment, NIL, and portal transfers of disgruntled players looking for more visibility and those just looking for a payday. College football's plan of whoaring themselves out to the almighty media dollar is showing signs of cracking under the weight of its own arrogance. There are more costs involved than revenue to support it for many college football programs, than the powers that be realize. More and more programs won't be able to keep up. So what's next? Screw it up even further to try and save it from itself? .
The 2024 NFC North is going to send a 13-win wild card team to the playoffs. Since realignment in 2002, no wild card team has won more than 12 games. Only once since the AFL-NFL merger has a wild card team won 13 games, and that was the 1999 Titans.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1hkbs9i/the_2024_nfc_north_is_going_to_send_a_13win_wild/With wins on Sunday, the Lions and Vikings became the first teams in the same division to each win at least 13 games in the same season since 1999 (Jags 14-2 and Titans 13-3).
The NFL has never had two teams in the same division each win at least 14 games in the same season. We might be witnessing history and it's great that it's happening in the NFC North.
