Elko should rack up six wins in the first seven games and finish with a 10 plus win season.
A slow start would be a disaster.

The D is going to be pretty good, our O line is the question. The Big dudes on the O line can make this a 10 win season!

We have an incredibly manageable schedule. 4 big home games and both Notre Dame and LSU are replacing lots of serious talent. Missouri should be tough. Texas will be good but they lost so much at skill and on defense. Somehow go 3-1 in that big 4. at Florida will be a challenge but they are depleted. Auburn could be strong if they have a QB. We may have a new coach but we return quite a few starters and guys that played significant snaps last fall and the defensive scheme is similar. Need to stay healthy, need the OL to be good. The pieces are there to be a great team.

I've been doing a lot of offseason research. From what I've learned SO FAR, it would be a lot better to win a bunch of games than it would be to lose. Just my opinion.

Thanks OP, seems these expectations weren't clearly defined for him but thankfully the text saved the season. Any other pearls of wisdom?

It's not just that.

Elko needs to score points while not allowing our opponents to score as many.

This is crucial to success.

Once Jimbo accumulated the needed talent to become a top tier contender his S&C coach left and was replaced by an absolute dud. The new S&C guy didn't create a culture of discipline, competition, and the overall weight training and nutrition had our team looking so slow and inexplosive not to mention often injured. Jimbo then lost his OL coach who also was the only person in the building willing to suggest a more modern offense, he was replace by Addazio who sucked. Elko left and was replaced by a DC that wanted to use a two gap scheme with heavy personnel and had the DB coach teaching the worst chase technique I have ever seen, should have never been hired. Jimbo hired his buddies to be "coaches" yet most were recruiters only that struggled to coach up the talent on campus and put them in a position for success.

Jimbo himself didnt create a culture where the offense was simple and clean, see all the false starts and delay of games coming out of timeouts. Jimbo ran a sloppy program, we didnt have a special teams coach it cost us games every year. Jimbo had his GM go to Oregon and was replaced by an incompetent fool, dont know who that was on. Overall the details were not being handled by Jimbo or anyone at Bright.

He preached grit, discipline, sacrifice but those things were not there on gameday other than grit. Lastly, the amount of one score games we lost is staggering. A good coach would have made the adjustments in year 4 to get those wins instead of banging that square into the circle.

Thought he needs a fast car was going to be the crux of this thread so he can get away (queue whatever version of that song that suits you best).

ND will be tough as they are 3 yrs entrenched w players and program. Sort of the worst year for them to be game 1 on our sched (would have preferred game 3 to work out kinks).

Do like that Elko knows Kelly and hopefully how he thinks which should help vs LSU (don't see how LSU will replace QB productivity w kid who could have been in animal house with his last name).

We have a favorable home/away schedule with our toughest games against Notre Dame, Missouri, LSU, and Texas at home and winnable road games at Florida, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Auburn. Hopefully, we can beat Notre Dame in Week 1 and snap a 10-game road losing streak with a win at Florida.

Won't be a problem. I've been told by TexAgs that they suck, are overrated, and have no chance with an SEC schedule.

Comeback route
No 3 and outs
Run the damn ball
No 3-man fronts
ST coach
WR routes past the sticks

Easy 9 wins right there.

First thing Elko needs to do is minimize the size of the playbook to say around 1/3rd the size of an index card. Don't laminate it or highlight stuff on it. Cut it down to a single play. That's right, one play. Work on it until you can execute your part of the play perfectly.

That's a favorable schedule? SC and Auburn look like only favorable schedule.

We dont have an oline, again. Just no talent upgrade. That group is the biggest disappointment with use of portal. All hoping the injuries just disappear. Even if they do, those guys are not working out full strength while healing. Along with minimal running backs. Going to be a challenging year. One of these years, they'll figure out how important the oline is.

I meant a favorable home/away schedule with our toughest games at home and less difficult SEC games on the road. All 4 road games at Florida, Mississippi State South Carolina, Auburn appear winnable, and I hope we win at least 2 of them. If our home and road games were flipped, our schedule would be much less favorable because we are much better at home than on the road.

Regarding the schedule: Miss State, Florida, Arky, and South Carolina are all very talent depleted from where they were just 2 seasons ago (2022) and they all also very young. LSU lost a ton of talent on both sides, their OL is strong and I am sure they have plenty of RBs and skill guys but its a lot to replace. Auburn is always going to be tough, they have legit talent.

On the OL, we got several guys from the portal and despite what some people think, we do have talent at OL. It, like many other position groups at A&M needs real coaching. This OL is not some talent depleted group, they can play. Runningback is plenty talented, not sure what you are watching. Owens and Moss are top tier RBs, Daniels is serviceable. These two units need to stay healthy.

This roster is extremely talented and experienced. I know a vocal group of texags refuses to admit it but it is. Need real coaches and a real S&C coach which we now have.
