Yeah, I remember now. Had we played Arky when we're supposed to, we most likely would have MNC that year. We were ranked number two going into the Arky game and with UM or OSU were number one and lost that day.

It's a rarity that the Aggies win the game after beating tu. Hasn't happened since the '88 Cotton Bowl.

I'd be for playing it the week after an annual Thanksgiving BYE.
Thanks and Gig'em!

I prefer the Thursday game, family would gather with fans of both teams and it was something most of us would engage in and do together. Thanksgiving now is just gather to eat and everyone go their own way the rest of the day. The meal was always in-between the Cowboys and the Ag/t.u. games.

I quit watching the Cowboys when Schram sold the team to the carpetbagger. I basically don't turn on the TV on Thanksgiving day anymore.

Tex did not sell the team to Jones. The owner of the team was Aggie Bum Bright. The Bright era was a true low point in Cowboys history. Landry was fired immediately, but Tex was retained for a short time until Jerry could fully take control of the team. In many ways, his fate was worse than Landry's.

Not an option. Currently, the SEC Championship Game is payed the week after Thanksgiving.

Now, the only non Championship game played after Thanksgiving weekend is the Army/Navy Game.

I was there for the 1979 game. It was glorious. But the school refunded my student ticket because it he third deck wasn't complete so I bought a scalper ticket. Heh.

I don't remember going in 1984. Probably too just finishing up two years late after taking a gap year.

I'd prefer we play LSU that weekend and play tu in September.

It ain't the rivalry it used to be and it's just another football game now. LSU is easy to hate. tu is just another football game.

Right. As evidenced by the fact that around half the threads on here are about them. Hilarious when zoo posters start the "just another game" crap. Maybe if you scream a little louder about how over them you are, someone will believe you.
It's so cute how you still pretend to be an Ag when everyone knows you are one of the biggest sip trolls on this board. And most of the threads that are started about tu are from sip trolls.

The fact is we didn't even play the game on Thanksgiving all of the time - 9 of the last 33 games were not on T-giving. And 50 times in the series history it was not on t-giving.

Dude. You need to go back a redo your list. Nearly the entire Big 12 existence the game was on Friday. Most times in the morning. It wasn't until 09 it was on Thursday again.
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Yeah, many more eyeballs will be watching when we're on of 30 games on Saturday instead of one of 3 games.

I LOVE Thanksgiving, and I do love to watch some evening 'sip ass-kicking with my turkey sandwiches.

A lot of people actually PREFER watching a college rivalry to a mid-season NFL game that may or may not mean much. I know I love watching the Ole Miss/Miss St rivalry which I have no stake in.

I'm glad our student body will learn why it is we can't stand these jerks, and the nation should have the same opportunity.

The 89 to 96 era games were impacted by NCAA violations by Sherrill and t-sips. I remember *****ing about it at the time.
False.

The 1994 game was moved because of our TV ban. That's it. From the time UH entered the SWC until its break up, the game moved around in large part because the SWC schedule, which didn't really change from year to year, keyed off OU-Texas being the second Saturday in October. Sometimes the final weekend of play was Thanksgiving weekend, and sometimes it was the first Saturday in December. I mostly hear sips repeating the lie that Jackie was responsible for the game not being on Thanksgiving.

For those wanting to play the game on Thanksgiving, you must not care about student attendance, because, after the newness wears off, it will be weak. Back in the days of on campus bonfire, students had classes Mon-Wed and stuck around for bonfire Wednesday night. Nowadays, Wednesday is a "reading day" with no classes, and a lot of classes don't meet on Monday and Tuesday, meaning that many students take the entire week off and go home. You aren't getting those kids back to campus for a Thursday game except for extraordinary circumstances. Maybe you can get them back for a Saturday game, but frankly, I'd rather play Texas a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, on a regular week when the campus is full and College Station is not a ghost town.

Agree. And i was at 75 game.

I originally hated losing the series, thought id miss it like hell. I didn't; too much excitemement being in SEC and watching sip flounder and realize thier massive miscalculation.

Now for once i agree w sip, if it must happen then bring it back as it was, on turkey day, dont give a **** about the nfl.

That being said, i hate it w a passion that they have been allowed to join our conference and will soon be eating it from within like the cancer they are.

Why are the Dallas Cowboys America's team?
One of the reasons is that they took advantage of every marketing advantage known to man....including being one of the only teams that ever wanted to annually play on Thanksgiving.

Quit thinking small time.
The late NFL game starts at 7:25 on Thanksgiving night, and ends at roughly 10:30PM.

If you start the game at 8PM you get the entire nation watching the last 1.5 quarters of the game after the NFL game ends.
You would get an whole nation wide audience of football fans (raises hands) who have no rooting interest at all in the Thanksgiving NFL night game.

Does anyone in America really care about the Egg Bowl? That would be the other rivalry game you'd be competing against on Thanksgiving night.
People all over the country are going to be fascinated to learn which school gets to earn those coveted Texas bragging rights for the year.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is just another day, and many people are already focused on Christmas.

Sure....everyone on this board can pretend that beating the University of Mississippi, Arkansas or LSU feels the same as it does to stomp Texas.....but we all know we'd be lying.

Texas A&M will never have a rival as big as the University of Texas. Its time to make this rivalry game the biggest in the country.

ok then.....

^ Explain why that was unequivocally NOT TRUE when we played on T-giving night before and there was no NFL competition?

We never set any ratings on fire even when there was no other game on and it was still a bitter rivalry.

Nobody cared then (outside of Texas) and they did not have other options to watch. My relatives in other states generally had no idea we were even playing back then, much less now.

But you think after 10.5 hours (11:30am to 10:30 pm) of food, drink and NFL football they are going to make sure to watch the last 1.5 quarters of a college game they care nothing about.

Ok.

Most would be either a. passed out b. tired of any and all football or c. both. Nobody other than diehard aggie and whorn fans would be watching.

When the Florida schools where at their zenith everyone in the country tuned in to watch Florida vs Florida St or Miami vs Florida St.

There is no reason that A&M vs Texas on Thanksgiving night can't become the biggest rivalry in all of college sports.

Thanks for agreeing with my point. People tune in to watch highly ranked teams play each other.

FSU v Miami this year got a 2.2 rating. Nothing wrong with that, but hardly suggests everyone is tuning in
