Because it creates even more "free agency"....making it difficult for coaches to out together a roster with so many unknowns.
The portal has already made it the wild west with perpetual free agency.
Why a kid can sign a scholarship contract and break it with zero repercussions I have no idea.
They should start to treat college scholarships like professional contracts.
You want to sit out because ur coach won't release u? Cool.
The school u signed with has rights to your services until u fulfill them. No draft. No other schools.
But it should also go the other way- a school signs a scholarship player, you can't yank the scholarship prematurely unless they agree.
If u remove a underperforming athlete from the team, they get their free education, but no longer count against the school's allotted scholarships.
