If we waited until then the roster and recruiting class would have completely fallen apart.

I think the combo of Elko, Klein, and Moffitt will bring the kind of reset A&M needs and quickly.

Kalen DeBoer won National Coach of the Year, is at a school that has plenty of resources, and one that will pay him, just like they did Chris Petersen. He is in the playoff hunt and had no reason to walk away from that.

The ONLY coaches that leave are ones that are frustrated and trying to prove a point. See Jimbo, see Lincoln, see Kelly.

DeBoer is absolutely not frustrated right now, and has no reason to be.

Acting like we had any shot at him, or that you'd move if you were in his shoes, is absolutely asinine.

We can argue all day about whether or not DeBoer would've been interested in leaving Washington. I think if you throw enough money at a guy, he's always willing to talk. And depending on his personality, or what he privately thinks of the Washington job, he might've been willing to come here and coach SEC football. It's a moot point.
But the above statement you made is a blatant lie and shows you do not pay much attention to football. Your posting history does show all you do is post in the entertainment forum, so...

The OU line on both sides are much better

Not from what I saw
We much have watched a different game but facts do not lie

Az rushing 29 yards with avs 1.1yrd/attemp
OU rushed for 201 yards with avg 5.9 yrd/attemp

OU with 5 sacks
Az with 3 sacks

OU with 560 yards
Az with 354 yards

OU 3 fumbles lost all 3
AZ 3 fumbles recovered all 3.

AZ was very fortunate to be in the game. OU dominated both lines of scrimmage and if not for the fumbles and interceptions (one was caught/deflected), it would not have been close

Nope, just this game. Their resume is not impressive. They didn't play Oregon. They lost to 5-7 Miss state, Wash, and a bad USC. They beat Stanford by 1, Colorado by 3. A few good wins.

They have 6 turnovers but given up close to 600 yards. If OU could hold on to the ball, the game would not be close. they gave up 200 yards rushing while rushing for 29 yards. The OU line on both sides are much better which is where games are won. Plus OU doesn't even have their starting QB in who threw for 360 yards.

I don't see anything impressive.

They were 1-11 two years ago. This year 10-3.
I don't follow AZ and have no idea if their coach is any good. The team that played OU yesterday would get decimated by any decent team b/c their lines stink.

You can't run the ball, ,can't stop the run ends up multiple loses

I can tell you we would have seen more transfers and our recruiting class would be in shambles if we waited to hire a coach.

That doesn't mean we couldn't or wouldn't recover but this is would be a lot worse if we waited.

I don't necessarily doubt that but if one or two more (like Hicks) were to bail I might be hard pressed to think we gained much, if anything. Does anyone have a gauge as to how it would have compared if we had waited until after the bowl game to fire Fisher? I felt like we were going to have a lot of transfers if Fisher stayed but no tangible reason to believe that.

Someone said they were returning a decent chunk of this year's team. I guess AZ should be a contender for the Big 12 next year then. It's really wide open. Utah kinda collapsed late and they'll be relying on Rising coming back from his injury. Kansas will also be breaking in a new QB. KState lost Collin Klein, but I thought they were impressive in their bowl win. Texas Tech... well they ended on a high note. Oklahoma State should be respectable to good again.

No clear cut favorite though.

Arizona is PROOF Dumbo was a fraud and didn't want to be at A&M. Dumblin ran that Arizona program to the ground and they've already recovered. Why A&M cannot be successful with much better resources is beyond me.

Even if the opportunity arose, Aggies can't handle a guy like Saban coming in and telling the boosters and BMAs to piss off. Too much meddling.

Several things your post doesn't consider. That game was one of the only games MSU was healthy. AZ made a change at QB after that game.

It's one game.

Not really same team. Different QB and basically entire O Line. But Venables D getting roasted isn't a good sign for then.

You don't think the big xii is going to get a seat at a 12 seat table? Especially if it is a big state school?

P4 Conferences will get one autobid for the champion certainly. The Pac 2 might be able to filch a spot too for a year or two due to legalities and contracts still extant. That leaves 7 spots to be divided in some combination between SEC, B1G, and ACC, and the highest G5 champion. The SEC/B1G will certainly demand 2-3 at large bids a piece, so whether the ACC/Big 12 get an extra slot beyond the champion's allotment depends on how impressive their #2 team is.

I wrote nothing revolutionary, but I expect that is what everyone is really thinking in the SEC and B1G boardrooms. They would like 4 playoff spots each every year, but may have to lower to 3 to keep the peace with the ACC/Big 12, until a final iteration of the super playoff becomes palatable.

This is the Zoo, didn't realize you were so sensitive and politically correct. Coaches that have all the support and resources to be successful but epically fail is frustrating imo. Hopefully the changes will start a better trend. I've been a big Jimbo supporter until this season. Pissed off bc he wouldn't replace adazzio, among other things like play calling still in his control rather than letting BP implement his offense. The list goes on…

No thanks. Offensive guys suck
Arizona only had 350 yards last night vs OU too, while OU had 550 yards. I like Fisch, but he does not guarantee an explosive offense.

Arizona does have a lot of speed though, which we need. They had 100 yards in the first few drives with little time off the clock, so idk how they only managed 250 yards the rest of the game.

Arizona pretty much needed miracles to win last night vs OU and Deboer wasn't even answering the phone.

We just paid our new coach $7 million per year, and you're talking about us paying a ton more for someone? lol. Deboer was not even returning our calls. Get a good OC (or Klein be that good OC), and we've got what DeBoer brings bc Elko is a good Head Coach. DeBoer is not some elite recruiter. His recruiting class is rated like .87 which is awful. I get it's the school in part or mostly and possibly why he'd change jobs, but given he wouldn't return our calls….seems unlikely.

Also, there is something about the toughness a defensive coach like Elko will bring anyway, so I'm good with it. Deboer wasn't even listening.

And yet they won 7 straight games to end the season and are probably going to finish the year ranked #10 in the country with 3 wins over ranked opponents despite having literally never been thought of as a football school.

So whatever you think about their line play, they did what we CAN NOT DO. Win consistently in their conference and find a way to make it happen in a bowl game.

So because Arizona struggled in a bowl game Fisch is a bad coach? Gotcha.
Where'd you hear that? I haven't heard any info at all on if we tried to land DeBoer or not, much less any wild rumors that we called him and he didn't answer our call.

AZ was playing a freshman at Left Tackle last night after starter declared for draft and OU was gobbling them up.
Medaggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
TBH, didn't watch an AZ game. But their line play is not conducive to being a top tier team. Everyone here Rags on how bad the Big 12 was and texas would be a 5 loss team Yet OU dominated the game other than scoreboard.

They had 6 TO and was winning the game going in the 4th.

Many of AZ wins were by less than 7 points against a bad stanford/Cu team.

Watched their line play and unless it was a bad game, they will not win consistently. You can't win football games being outrushed 200 to 30 yards. This is one of the most important metric along with TO deciding who wins the game.

There are always a few teams every year who squeak by teams that they could easily have lost but get exposed the next year because they don't have the lines to compete with elite teams. TCU is a great example, a fraud team that gets exposed the next year.

I will bet anyone a small amount of money or bottle of Whiskey that AZ will not win the big 12 or whatever they call it next year. I bet they would be lucky to be top 3 to be honest

Every team was playing short due to transfer and draft. OU didn't even have their top 2 QB and started a true freshman. They were missing WRs and linemen too.

I am not saying Fisch is a good or bad coach, I never even heard of him but the team that played yesterday sorely needs better line play. Giving up 200 yards rushing and only gaining 30 on the ground is a recipe for a bad team. It just is and indisputible.

Actually he does. He is the one that offers the job but it has to be approved by BOR and of course whoever is going to fund it.

The joke is the AD doesn't make the decision which is partial true but not completely.
