AZ is a trash team. OU with 5 turnovers, one pick 6 and its tied. If OU could hold onto the ball, this game would be 35-10. OU has close to 500 yards and would be over 600 if not for all the turnovers.

I agree. I still think it would have been worth the risk. I think Elko would have been waiting even if we had approached him much later.

Nope, just this game. Their resume is not impressive. They didn't play Oregon. They lost to 5-7 Miss state, Wash, and a bad USC. They beat Stanford by 1, Colorado by 3. A few good wins.

They have 6 turnovers but given up close to 600 yards. If OU could hold on to the ball, the game would not be close. they gave up 200 yards rushing while rushing for 29 yards. The OU line on both sides are much better which is where games are won. Plus OU doesn't even have their starting QB in who threw for 360 yards.

I don't see anything impressive.

They won close games. Aggies lost close games. Enough said.

USC had not given up on the season when they played. They faced a full strength Miss St at Starkville and likely were not used to the infernal cowbells, almost won even with 5 TOs. CU was an away game.

The MSU lose was also with a different QB. They were much better when they made the change to Fifita

OU was the opposite of us in the fact that they lost their ENTIRE offensive line AND their qb (it's in the air if they told their qb to move on). I don't know what Arizona lost to the transfer portal, but ou's offensive line in combination with a new qb was definitely the factor in this game.

Before Jedd Fisch arrived, Arizona lost their last 12 (last 7 games of 2019 and all 5 games in 2020) games under Kevin Sumlin. After Arizona started 4-17 (1-11 in 2021 and 3-6 in 2022) in Jedd Fisch's first 21 games, they have been a remarkable 12-4 (2-1 in 2022 and 10-3 in 2023) in their last 16 games. This is the epitome of a head coaching building a program the right way.

I have no idea who, between DeBoer, Fisch or Elko, would have done the best job at A&M. It just seemed to me that we set out on this grand search then put constraints on it to force us back to where Bjork wanted to go with it from the outset. Reading what was available, it sounded like our discussions with Fisch amounted to something like "I called Fisch and left a message and haven't heard back in the past hour so we're moving on". The noise about having to get it done to keep recruits and limit transfers was a complete failure unless you consider playing our bowl game with a grand total of two defensive starters a success. So, we have our coach…but if we don't get results I'm going to say Bjork's "search" is going to be an indictment of his ability as an AD.

I can tell you we would have seen more transfers and our recruiting class would be in shambles if we waited to hire a coach.


That doesn't mean we couldn't or wouldn't recover but this is would be a lot worse if we waited.

Was easy this year…the team we just played was in the conference championship game!!! That is all that needs to be said. Oh, and Texas finally won it…that isn't happening if conference hasn't taken big step back…

They were 1-11 two years ago. This year 10-3.

There was no search! Just like with Sherman. Elko was easy to get and made the millionaires feel good. It was a lazy search. You hire a search firm to go get Mike Elko?

This is why it seems to be danged if you do, danged if you don't when firing college coaches these days. The early signing period combined with the portal has forced Universities to hire coaches earlier (before bowl season) and much more quickly. This creates a very interesting dynamic, particularly when dealing with position coaches and coordinators from playoff bound teams and high profile bowl teams who are preparing to play after the early signing period has ended.

This puts Universities in the spot where they have to hire coaches to attempt to 'save' their recruiting classes but cannot wait to hire the better coaches, if that makes sense. Just my thoughts but would certainly like to hear how others feel about this dynamic.

It's a messed up system.

I agree, the timing of ESD and the transfer portal windows along with when the bowls and CFP is, it all just makes it hard when it comes to hiring coaches.

Really hard when coaches are now on the hot seat half a season in. Or from the very start.

Really have you looked at their schedule if they go 4-4 that will be lucky. They aren't going to be playing teams with defenses ranked in the 100s for 6 games.

A billion reports out there say Stoops was offered and was set to come. And yet many will still act like this wasn't so. Billy Lucci isn't gonna make A&M look this inept if it wasn't so.
