I just read on Twitter that Texas A&M did not approve the hire of Mark stoops by the board. They heard the rumors of the fanbase revolting and killed the deal.

I get the denial aspect but it would be a massive accomplishment to dupe so many people on both sides. Plus why do that? The optics are really bad.

TAMU will make another lackluster hire, and we will be in this exact position in 5-7 years and millions of dollars poorer. It will be spun as a great hire and to not lose hope blah blah blah. The sooner you accept that, the better off you will be.

Listen we definitely tried to hire Stoops. Now maybe there was enough from the BOR to shoot it down before the outrage but it doesn't change the fact we tried.

And only would amplify firing Bjork now

So, we can only hire Dabo or Saban? And if we do, there will be those that say (actually they already are), " why did we hire a coach on their downhill slide, the game has passed them by". Let's face it, whoever we hire, 80% of us are going to be angry. Not that I wanted Stoops but I don't think he is a below average coach. Oh wait, I forgot about Smart, we must be hiring him.

It's not a guarantee for success but at least you have a chance. Do you think a little more money is going to turn stoops from mediocre into a championship coach?

Sorry I hurt your feelings. Let's face it you know the correct formula about as much as anyone else here. Otherwise, you've missed your calling, you should start up a consulting firm that helps schools hire championship level coaches. You'd make millions!

Now that you have moved the goalposts on your original statement: So Willie Fritz should be considered then, is that your man (honestly, he's done a pretty darn good job at Tulane and been a winner everywhere else) if it is, how many people on here do you think would love that hire? Besides that, (I'm not saying that times hadn't changed nor would I want to wait that long but) would you consider Bobby Bowden and Tom Osborne to be below average coaches because it took them so long to win a Natty?

You are correct, there are absolutely no guarantees for success but if you don't think money and resources can help a good coach get better results, then I don't know what to tell you. (see R.C's argument about retaining good assistants and recruiting, especially now in the NIL era).

I don't know if Stoops would have worked out here any more than you do. He certainly wasn't an awe inspiring possibility but to call him a below average coach is being disingenuous or flat out ignorant. He is a good coach, without a doubt. Would he be good here? Who knows?

Based solely on limited observation, almost no research but comparing to other posters info on various options at the position, I am intrigued by Fisch. Who is your "can't miss" candidate that would blow Stoops out of the water.
