He has 6 championship rings and he's 33.
He was one of 3 people in the prime Alabama defensive meetings, alongside Saban and Kirby.
He was the first person Kirby hired when he got to Georgia
He is an Incredible Xs and Os Defensive Coach, Turned down the Eagle's DC Job
He is a better recruiter than anyone on our previous staff. He is personally credited with 12 5*s on 247.
He makes less than $2MM a year, with no buyout
He is Kirby's right hand man at Georgia, see quote below

"He's the son of a football coach. He's extremely bright. He's extremely passionate. I rely heavily on Glenn for input on practice schedules, defensive design, and thinking outside the box. There's not a time when I think of who can I ask my staff that understands what we want and what we need when Schu [Schumann] is that guy. He's very talented."
-Kirby Smart

Sure, he is a risk. But he is a risk with Championship potential. Traynor and Elko haven't done anything to show they have Championship potential.

I think he should definitely be in the top 3-4. Obviously, I would prefer someone like Dan Lanning that has proven he can handle the duties associated with being the CEO of a modern football regime, but that is really his only knock in my view.

Lanning wasn't head coach until 2 yrs ago and it's working out. Kirby wasn't a HC and it's working out

I get that, but if guys like Lanning, Campbell, DeBoer, and Norvell are truly off the table like Liucchi says, Then Schu has to be the guy.

Championship coaches come from lines of Championship coaches. Traynor and Elko don't fit that bill. They might be able to win 10 games, but even Jimbo gave us better odds at winning it all than those two.

I'd argue that his resume is better than Kirby's when he started at UGA(outside of Kirby being a UGA grad)

I'm aware of how things go. However, one of our stated objectives was to find a "proven winner".

Wow, OP. You got me. That is probably the best pitch I've seen on here for any coaching candidate in the last, oh, hundred years.

Somebody like this would get my vote. Great pedigree, they e been on championship staffs, solod recruiter. They'd need to hire a DC and OC to compliment. I don't think trying to money whip a hot coach will work out for us, ever. Bringing in someone who is hungry to prove themselves,, you can set up a decent contract, incentivize so both parties win.

The DC from Georgia? How much of a proven winner can you get ?

I'm convinced. Good job OP. Anything but a Dabo/Urban or any other attempt at a splash hire that will likely turn into another waste of money.

Once again, 6 rings. Explain to me how Elko is a "proven winner" and Schu isn't.

Winning the Military Bowl at Duke, only to take a step back in year 2, doesn't outweigh 15 years of studying under Saban and Kirby.

That didn't work out well for us last time. I'm ready for a fresh approach and finding untapped potential. Let's do it!

Sign me up if he has the pedigree of Lanning. It's just a huge risk to hire a guy that young with very little experience that is also from outside the program. He might be a great coach in a few years but can we wait?

If you hire him do we lose most of our talented core to the portal? That will set us back a couple seasons too. I have my doubts whether a guy that young can come in and hit the ground running.

Umm anybody else who has been a head coach and won more games than lost? I'm not splitting hairs but he has a coaching record of 0-0

I'm not on the elko bandwagon and I'm not against Schumann. Just stating the obvious things and something that doesn't line up with what Bjork said we wanted

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'd rather have someone that has been a part of a program like Bama or Georgia. They have seen what it takes to not only create a winning program but a dominating program.

Smart had not been a CEO but had a front row view of how Saban runs things.

Schumann has Georgia's defense playing like they are possessed.

Edit to add-
Schumann would more than likely be able to convince the bulk of the defense to stay. Who wouldn't want to play for a guy that is dumping talent into the NFL.

GO GET HIM!!!

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I just don't think a proven winner has to mean he's been an HC, and I don't think the other "realistic" names being thrown around are high-level winners.

I'd rather have a 50% chance of 12 wins and a 50% chance of 6 wins than a 100% chance of 8-9. If he works out, we found the next Kirby/Saban. If he doesn't, we fire him and try again with someone with championship potential.

As opposed to hiring someone who has been an HC for a couple of years and has never sniffed that level of success, winning 7-9 a year, and waiting 6 years to fire him.

Schumann should be at the very top of the list. I would literally pick him over anyone other than Saban, Smart, Harbaugh, or Day.

Seriously. Needs to be Schumann.
