Y'all act like Nick Saban left the NFL cause he wanted too. He was failing in Miami. He was an easy decision for any college program because he had already led LSU to a title.

I personally love the idea of Dan Campbell. He's not a sure thing at this level, and might not want it. But **** it. Why not try? Now's the time with the NIL in place to ease the recruitment transition.

Saban wasn't good in Miami, but it wasn't a total disaster. 9-7 in the first season, 6-10 in the second season, then took the job at Alabama.

Maybe he could have been successful in time. We'll never know. It doesn't always work out right away. Kyle Shanahan was 6-10 and 4-12 in his first two seasons. Bill Belichick had losing seasons in 4 of his first 5 seasons in Cleveland, and was 5-11 in his first year with NE.

I don't think Elko will leave Duke any time soon. Nothing against A&M. I've heard his wife prefers living in North Carolina compared to Texas. Plus, Duke is a good gig. A lot less pressure than being HC of an SEC school.

He wouldn't want to deal with the access Liucci thinks he's entitled to here at Texags.

Not a chance. The NFL is a far superior gig to any college job. The demeaning act of recruiting is a reason all by itself; nothing else matters.

I have a hard time imagining Dan being able to recruit above a .91 average…. when we need 92-93 average, in addition to it being across all position groups and not just some like Jimbo has messed up continually. And is Dan a guy who the best coordinators all want to play for? bc they all rejected Jimbo the last 2 offseasons.

Elko's not coming back to A&M

I would love to have Dan Campbell at A&M. I remember him playing here from 1994-1998. Did he actually get his degree? If not, that could be an impediment to his being hired by an academic institution.

Makes no difference to me. I think he's a great coach, regardless.

Probably not. he is an NFL head coach that is doing quite well. No reason to go back to the college game. Plus jerry May be needing an HC in either 2024 or 2035. Best to look elsewhere!

All this talk of Saban as the prime example and nobody mentions Pete Carroll. He had opportunities after New England to stay in the NFL but decided to take a year off and then went to USC where he lead the resurgence of that program, and then went back to the pros.

His first four seasons as an NFL HC (NYJ for one and NE for three) were not the worst, but record wise he was below average. Now he's widely considered one of the best football coaches of this generation.

He has the Detroit Lions at 5-1 and first in their division. He's not leaving the NFL. Dude will probably get a fat contract after this season due to the improvement the team has had.

Dan would be the first call I make. I would fully expect him to say "Thank you but no". Still though, I am at least making the call.

Dan Campbell has led the Detroit Lions to a 5-1 start. That is tied with the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and Miami Dolphins for best record in the NFL. After a 4-19-1 (3-13-1 in 2021 and 1-6 in first 7 games of 2022) start in his first 24 games , he has gone 13-3 (8-2 in last 10 games of 2022 and 5-1 currently). He has been a great fit for the Detroit Lions, and there's no way he would leave the Lions.

Ever been to that part of North Carolina? If I lived there, it would be very hard to move elsewhere, including Texas.

Successful NFL HCs with good rosters don't leave for college jobs. It's literally without precedent.
