I agree with the poster above about Northgate in 85.
Thousand drunks having yell practice in the street. Only doing one yell over and over. BTHOtu. Was freezing cold too. I remember seeing some guy in the bed of a truck trying to lead yells with a 12 pack under one arm.

The roar, then sack. Unforgettable. The absolutely ridiculously loud YELLING would register now on a pain scale.

The Reveille imitation by player speaking at bonfire... Teasips had zero chance.

I attended that 85 classic. Also the 10-6 over the Hogs earlier that year. My ears rang for a couple of days.

Games where you are sitting in the student section will always seem louder than games where you are not.

When was the game that Guinness book of world records was there recording us to see what decibal the 12th man could all could get to? Was that the Nebraska 9-6 game? Man it was loud - I couldn't hear myself screaming - if remembering this right I think the 12th man posted a 110 on the decibal meter which they said was equal to a low jet flying 100 ft off the ground? I can't remember if we broke the record.

Sorry found it and it was the 9-6 Nebraska game

1985 t-sip game was the loudest ever because the noise didn't stop when the Ags were on defense. From the end of one play until beginning of the next play, the yelling continued. Cotton balls floating down from all 3 decks. The absolute joy of winning the SWC for the first time since 1967.

That is why this game is the gold standard.

Not taking away from that game (I wasn't there so have to go on other eyewitnesses). But I wonder if that was also a time where refs actually cared how loud the crowd was being. That is, it just seems like it was the loudest since the refs were pausing the game? Now a days, refs wouldn't bother.

FWIW - I recall some KSU game in Kyle maybe right around 1999 / 2000 after we won the Big 12 that was really loud and they were measuring it on the sidelines with a decibel meter. Thinking also the OU 2000 game was really loud, and yea, recall that Nebraska game in 2010 was loud. Seem to recall Clemson (2018?) being ear-splitting -- a Clemson fan sitting next to me gave me a Clemson $2 bill at the end and commented how crazy the atmosphere was and the sound.

2000 OU is when they were measuring it. So damn loud.

For fan to noise ratio nothing beats 1998 Nebraska.

Yep!
