How long do you want to ignore this user?
When did the crowd start doing that dumb Oooo-ing and Ahhhh-ing when the buglers roll their flags?
The crowd didn't do that stupid crap when I was in school.

I got out in 2002 and don't remember it then, but I think it was shortly after during the Fran or Sherman years that it slowly started. I don't really care about that as much as the dumb "hump it Ags!" DURING the War Hymn.

(Yes, I know my diploma is old enough to legally drink and I also see a cloud that needs to be yelled at).

The Hump it Ags sing songy addition to Spirit started in the late aughts or early teens. Absolutely was not a thing while I was in school I don't even recall hearing it the year I had season tickets in 07.

I was in school from 02-06. I attended games with my brother when he was I school before me. They have absolutely been doing that since 2000 easy.

I never did it because my dad taught me the proper ways when we were kids. But it's been happening over 20 years.

Yep, I'm class of '05, and they were doing both things when I was in school. And it didn't seem like it was the first time some had done that either.

Mid 90's at least. I graduated in '97. Was there then. We have a lot to complain about but this should be down the list a little bit.

It was happening in the late 90's, just wasn't as loud.

FYI - The "S" is also extended during the AGGIES yell. You know... A - G - G - I - E - Sssssss.
MouthBQ98

It started right about when I graduated. The bugle rank "flourishes" at the start of the drill had been getting more lengthy and extravagant to the point of being pretentious, and a couple of the CT units in the corps block had their fish start the "ooh" "ahh" thing to mock them in turn. Then more of the CT's joined in.

Well, the naive third deck non reg fish heard that, assumed it was something that was normally done, and within a game or two, a new stupid tradition of appearing to mock the bugle rank at every game was locked in, apparently for all eternity.

The bandsmen who understand its origins still HATE it.
Unforgiven94

Well to be fair, a lot of our bugle rank brethren were/are pretentious. They probably deserved the mocking.

Great explanation. Thank you. I took one of my dealers to a game as their daughter was being offered a volleyball scholarship. They wanted to experience everything they could about Aggieland that week end.
They all asked me why we were making fun of our own band. I told them I had no idea as we damn sure did not do that when I was going there. Now as Paul Harvey used to say " I know the rest of the story".
Thanks.

I have to admit, it has been the master stroke of genius in the CT Vs BQ corps rivalry, probably of all time.

With a single well timed act of mockery, some still anonymous Ct upperclassmen got his fish to start a tradition of most of the Aggies in the stand openly and loudly mocking the band leadership on the field right before every halftime drill of every home game in front of ever set of visiting fans.

As a rivalry move, it has to be considered unparalleled in the history of the university, and most of the people participating have no idea why.

Another thing I've noticed is during the Fight yell (A-G-G-I-E-S, A-G-G-I-E-S.....) that the intonation on the 'S' is rising making it sound more like a question than a statement. When I was there in the late 80's to mid 90's the "S" was yelled like a resounding exclamation point and not a question.

Go to about the 5:05 mark in the following video...

This was for Florida 11 years ago...and I think it's actually worse now..(0:35 mark)

CTs versus BQs. It good to see the some rivalries never die. My son was a CT. Still finds ways to avoid watching the band to this day.

Whiniest fan base that isn't in Baton Rouge or Tuscaloosa…the current students own the traditions. Each generation makes changes to traditions that the previous generation grumbles about. For example, as a Cowboys fan I despised waving a terrible towel when Sherrill introduced that. And I was a current student at the time…

The really important question is by what game this season will the freshman realize you don't sing the War Hymn at halftime during the band's march.

Yell Leaders been trying to combat this at Midnight Yell forever as well. But, it definitely feels like the S has gotten even more drawn out.

But, I will say what I have said on many threads. The biggest issue at Kyle Field is the Old Ags not yelling. It ain't the students. Apparently, when you graduate and no longer have a yell leader in front of you, you can no longer do yells.

Coincides with the rise of the uptalker inflection with later millenials. Listen to many of the young women at the time talk. Most sentences end with that upwards inflection like they are unsure what they are stating is true and are searching for affirmation. Even many males picked up that speech pattern over the last 15 years or so, though it is beginning to fade.

Even worse than any of that is the "YOUUUUUUUU!" they yell after "The eyes of Texas are upon you." I would speculate that it started around the time "Soulja Boy Tell'em/Crank That" was popular (2007) I hate it. It throws off the timing.

It was going on in Fall '02 but it was mostly upper classmen doing it to mock them. From what I recall, the buglers didn't do much of that in previous years and had just started. It gained steam from there.
