For football, yeah, pretty much. Changes do need to be made. But Jimbo's gotta get paid before such changes could be implemented.

99.99% of this board was uncontrollably giddy with the Jimbo hire

Franchione was a solid hire on paper , could be argued was a slam dunk hire on paper
Sumlin was a solid hire on paper
Jimbo was a slam dunk on paper

Only hire imo that wasn't a splash was Mike Sherman

We could have had urban Meyer. We need to get over ourselves and the idea we have to have a big name coach. News flash, big name coaches don't want to come to A&M unless something is wrong with where they're at. Elko will be there for us, but our hubris will lead us somewhere else

As a student those years, I remember being grumpy about those games. No internet, so if I had melted down, I probably would have been arrested.

Probation was because Jackie beat tu.

Weak conference was during RC.

80s SWC was not weak.

Elko is already probably the hottest name in coaching right now, it wont be easy to get him.

How many SWC national titles in the 80s? Without looking it up I'm saying zero.
After fact check checking: 0 SWC titles in the 70s, 80s, or 90s.

the decade of the 80's belonged to the independents

Miami, Florida State, Penn State, and Notre Dame

they won more titles and games than any team in a given conference

and at the time....it was a phenomenal achievement

as was winning 2 Cotton Bowls

and that's what made the Manziel era the Manziel era

it doesn't happen under Sherman

It was the extension that was DUMB. Same as sumlins extension. Mays Business should use those extensions as case studies on not doubling down on mediocrity.

and for some perspective for the younger Ags....

A&M and t.u. started playing football in 1894

Jackie was hired in 1982

from 1894 to 1982...a span of 88 years...A&M only beat the longhorns 22 times

15 of those 22 wins occurred before Pearl Harbor

from 1940 to 1982...the program only beat the sips 7 times

so when Jackie beat them 5 times-in-a-row in the 80's....it was Shangri-La
