Texas A&M ranked No. 23 in Associated Press' Week 2 rankings

A thorough 52-10 victory over unranked New Mexico has kept Texas A&M at No. 23 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 released Tuesday afternoon.

The Aggies also moved up two spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 23.

The Southeastern Conference holds six spots in the Top 25 with Georgia remaining at No. 1 following a 48-7 drubbing of Tennessee-Martin. Alabama also maintains its position within the top five thanks to Saturday’s 56-7 beatdown of Middle Tennessee. Brian Kelly and the Louisiana State Tigers were toppled 45-25 by Florida State and plunged nine spots down to No. 14. Quarterback Joe Milton guided Tennessee past Virginia, 49-13, and the Volunteers jumped to No. 9 in the rankings. By defeating Mercer 73-7, the Ole Miss Rebels moved two spots to No. 20.

Coach Prime and Colorado enter the Top 25 after shocking last year’s national runner-up in then-No. 17 TCU, 45-42. Mike Elko and Duke spoiled Garrett Riley’s debut as offensive coordinator for then-No. 9 Clemson with a 28-7 upset — the Blue Devils’ first win over a top-10 team since 1989 — to take No. 21 in the poll.

Ranked matchups in this week’s slate include No. 20 Ole Miss at No. 24 Tulane and No. 11 Texas at No. 3 Alabama.

Week 2 offers a significant uptick in competition for the Aggies as they travel to Hard Rock Stadium to face Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.
