By now, everyone knows Hugh Freeze is a sleazebag. But did you know that the 2009 movie "The Blind Side" is a Disney-fied version of how Freeze took advantage of a poor child and circumvented recruiting regulations

Hugh Freeze was the head coach at Briarcrest Christian High School, where he recruited Michael Oher to play for him in high school. Freeze then arranged for Oher to be "adopted" by rich Ole Miss alums Tuohy and recruited to Ole Miss.

In exchange, Freeze was hired by Ole Miss the next season as their recruiting coordinator.

Also, it turns out that the Tuuohys didn't actually adopt Oher, but instead just became his conservators, which allowed for them to profit off Oher.

I know a guy who went to Briarcrest when Freeze was there. Even then, it was obvious to the boys that Freeze was overly interested in the high school girls roaming the halls.

I hope Oher sues those snakes for everything they are worth, including the attorney that represented him in the conservatorship.

It wasn't until Oher retired from football that he hired an attorney to look into everything for him, and he uncovered the conservatorship and that he wasn't actually adopted, and that the family was making royalties from the movie and sharing none of it with him.

That makes sense. I can't imagine any HS kid, no matter how educated, would have the wherewithal to read every line of every document or consult with their own attorney. Sucks for him. You think these people are in your corner only to find out they've been riding your coattails the whole time.

I like to wait for both sides of the story, so maybe they can make it make sense but I doubt it

The movie was pretty awkward overall.

Mommy loves her football player so much that she **** talks gangbangers to get him back. The whole conflict of the movie was solved when he said "I'm family and family goes to Ole Miss". He throws a kid literally off the entire football field and everyone just laughs about it because he's such a big nice guy.

Bleh.

Amazing how people look the other way when a situation pulls at your heartstrings. This revelation is hilarious.

I'm not sure if his claim that they never adopted him and instead entered him in a conservatorship is true, but wouldn't surprise me at all. The family lived in the Memphis area. They were surrounded by some of the most extreme levels of poverty and broken homes in this country, and just so happen to take in a 5 star football prospect? Yeah, that was definitely out of the nature of their good hearts, no self serving reasons.

And to tie this back to A&M football, Ole Miss' OC at the time Oher was recruited there and Freeze was hired in to the offensive staff was Noel Mazzone.

Why wait 14 years later? Sounds like Oher is out of money.

As mentioned above, he just recently retired from the NFL and hired an attorney to go back and look into all of the paperwork and it was discovered that he wasn't actually adopted by the family like they said he was. As well from the movie each parent and each child except for Oher got a payout plus have been receiving royalties. Meanwhile Michael was busy working in the NFL to be able to look into all of it, once he did, he found out the truth.

Edit to add, I don't believe it has anything to do with the money but the fact that the family is profiting off of his name, image, and likeness while he gets....zero.

There is an episode somewhere back of "Below Deck" with the husband and wife Tuohys and some friends. You could tell Leigh Anne Tuohy was insufferable.

He's been out of the league for over 6 years… Did not recently retire.

NFL money ran out? So he's looking into things?

Would he even have a claim to any monies from The Blind Side. Just because he's in the story - albeit one of the main characters - doesn't mean he owns the story. Can't they just argue they're profiting on their side of the story?

Why? He was a 5* prospect being recruited by multiple SEC schools. the Movie made it look like the family was the savior, but he was already on a decent track.

I didn't know that part of the story. I didn't realize he even played football before they took him in. I suppose I'm guilty of believing the story more or less as presented in the movie.

Does it matter if he ran out of money or not? If these allegations are true, they did him dirty and he deserves his fair share

I'm not sure on this. The only stories I've seen on this have Oher basically passed along the Memphis school system with Fs and Ds, and him unable to interact with others or pass a class. Michael Oher had a horrible life growing up. He didn't even play football his sophomore year because of grades. He also likely flunks out at Briarcrest if not for the Tuohys and that tutor. Also the dad who sent Oher's application to Briarcrest along with his own son's application.

The Tuohys were the 5th Briarcrest HS family that Oher stayed with. I don't think there was some elaborate plan by Hugh Freeze and the Tuohys to get 8th or 9th grader Michael Oher from the streets of Memphis to Ole Miss.

I suppose you always want to wait to hear both sides of a stories but this is a huge red flag.

Quote:

The deal lists all four Tuohy family members as having the same representative at Creative Artists Agency, the petition says. But Oher's agent, who would receive movie contract and payment notices, is listed as Debra Branan, a close family friend of the Tuohys and the same lawyer who filed the 2004 conservatorship petition, the petition alleges. Branan did not return a call to her law office on Monday.

Branan isn't located in L.A. or NYC and doesn't specialize in entertainment law. One of the areas she does specialize in though appears to be family law including conservatorships.

Good for the Tuohy's for not airing this to the world through social media. They've already been convicted there.

Counterpoint. They stole money from a poor high school kid and anything they have to say would make them look worse than they already do.
