Very bummed for Green. By all accounts he's a great dude and he earned that spot out of a pretty talented group. It's definitely a big loss.

I like Johnson a lot, and I look forward to watching him fill that role. He has all the tools to be a goon. Max is pretty one dimensional, but he's good at what he does. Ohrstrom will have to prove it. I know we hear good things, but we hear good things about everybody. Unfortunately there's just not many international prospects that pan out at any level of football (besides kickers/punters). So I don't expect much from him until he shows me I am wrong, which I hope I am.

As a fan, if there is one position group that could absorb a major injury, I think TE is the spot.

Agreed. All injuries are bad and I hate that it was green because he seems like a guy who truly loves aggieland, but I think TE is probably our deepest position

If replacing 22 catches is a "Huge loss", we've got much bigger problems.

As a plus, this looks like we might actually be using a TE this fall…
First of all you're confusing people. "We". We're talking Aggie football, not t-sips.

2nd of all, you don't understand college athletics if you think a young player's stats define how good he will be the next year. Especially a young player who comes on strong near the end of his FRESHMAN year and makes freshman All-American honorable mention team.

I really hate, 'sips, especially the ones who try to hide behind an Aggie facade.

To say this is not a big loss based on stats from last season is stupid. Would it not be a big loss if we lost an RB? Well, none of the returning RBs had big stats last year.

Green is a future potential All-SEC tight end, he is very good and likely would have been the #1 starting TE for us. Absolutely love Max Wright but he is an extra OT more than anything.

Thankfully we have recruited well at TE and have time to adapt as needed, but this is a big loss for the team and Green personally. Hopefully he has a full recovery and is ready to go next fall, I wouldn't even push it for spring ball next year.

This happens to just about every team in fall camp, college and pro, that starters are lost to season ending injuries, it's just part of it..... but we only pay attention to our team for it being breaking news. There have already been returning NFL starters that have been lost in training camp to a season ending injury, happens every year.

Sounds like cope to me. Wright is a blocker and Johnson hasn't proven that he can make an impact when Donovan could.

That's just classic TexAgs. Best player at a position goes down? "It's no biggie." Then everyone is shocked and amazed when that position sucks.

This is a pretty massive loss for our offense. No way to spin it.
And after the season concludes with a disappointing record "were it not for injuries we could have finished 11-2..."

It's a big loss. Unless a newcomer steps in. All the guys on campus last year did a bunch of nothing when the lights came on. Max is cool as a blocker and occasional catch but that's about it. Johnson didn't do anything last year.

Green looked like he had potential to be a all SEC type player. No one else has shown that on a college football field yet.

Do you ever get tired of being wrong? You've proven it over and over, your histrionics aside, you have zero way of knowing if this is/.was "Huge". And have you been in the Spirit magazine lately?

This does suck no matter how you look at it, but this is a position we have great depth at. Not to mention, in the open practice held over a week ago, the tight ends that were running with the first unit were Jake Johnson and Theo Melin Ohrstrom…

Be honest. Who else didn't know what position he played? I thought I followed the team well enough/watch all the games and had never heard of him until now.

Exactly. It is a big loss. Nobody else on our roster has proven to be a playmaker at tight end. We have "depth" in that we have 4 warm bodies behind him. None of those warm bodies have proven they can be playmakers in game.

My guess is, we have overall solid to good TE play.

But yes, it's a bit of an unknown and losing Green takes away that sure thing.

The reason for that is that Green was recovering from an ankle injury. Not that he'd been passed up on the depth chart.

Fisher confirmed that was the reason Green wasn't with the ones today.

Donovan had like 20 something catches. He had some big plays but let's not act like he had a Wydermyer level impact that can't be replaced. We have Jake, the #1 TE from the same class that would've played more if he was healthier. We have Max who can do anything you ask him to. You also have a Swedish Beast who caught 8 passes in the scrimmage. We will be fine.

Never said it wasn't a big loss. But TE is one of our more stacked positions. It's not like we're replacing a Wydermyer, Sternberger impact guy in the middle of the season either. We have the right guys to handle a situation like this and if you can't see that, I'll just let you go cry in the corner and wait for "next year".

Best wishes to him for recovery. As one who knows, season ending injuries are very tough for a young player to deal with mentally.

He was by far the best TE on the roster last season, and also this season. If the other guys come on in his absence, great.

Also, Wydermyer only had 515 yards on 40 receptions in 2021, to lead the team. There were more checkdowns that year with Calzada as the primary QB and poor WR production (remember Demond Demas?), so that likely explains the TE leading the team in yards.

So for Green to have 233 yards on 22 receptions last year as the FOURTH leading receiver shows that A&M didn't target the TE as much, as he was still as productive as Wydermyer when he was targeted.

Petrino likes to use 2 TE sets and stretches the field with them when they have a mismatch. Any starter is a big loss, one that was one of our top receivers is even bigger. Yes we have a deep TE room but most are unproven

I could be misremembering, and of course availability is the best ability, but wasn't Johnson injured last season? I think that heavily tipped his ability to contribute, although we did have some nice play from Dono.

Hopefully JJ and Theo have taken advantage of their offseason in the program to acclimate to the college game- either one of those dudes would be a Jimmy Graham style matchup nightmare in the pass game (and could probably get spot minutes as a PF if Buzz got in a jam).

I know Theo got the scout team award last year so hopefully that points to some contributing play this season.

Heh, I remember when Baylor Cupp going down meant complete disaster for the TE unit and then Wydermyer was an All SEC Freshman and All SEC player.

He was the best TE on the roster last season more due to Jake's injuries than to his performance. Donovan was obviously the better blocker which was more important to the team but he didn't do anything that we can't expect to replace given the production Jimbo has gotten out of his TEs each year so far.
