This isn't the Horns "listing themselves" as a contender.

Overall that might be the worst prediction article I have ever read. I don't think they got it anywhere close what it will really be.

They sure are putting a lot on the shoulders of Manning, a kid that has never taken a college football snap.

Even t-sips have to admit that it is funny that when the list got to Texas, everyone became a 3 year national championship contender. Not at Clemson, at team that has actually won two recently. But Texas, a team that has not been able to win a watered down Big 12 in recent memory.

Every fan base falls to this same logic. They look at the baseline, and they assume that every future variable goes to the positive.

They never account for injuries, but injuries always happen.
They never account for unexpected departures, but some players always leave.
They never account for coaching changes, but it's rare that a staff remains fully intact.
They always assume that their new position coaches are improvements on the last, but sometimes they are not.
They always assume that young players will improve, but some simply don't.
They always assume that their recruits will live up to their billing, but many will underperform.
They always assume that the team chemistry will improve, but sometimes it declines.

And most notably, they always assume that their improvements will surpass those of their opponents, but in fact, every team is doing absolutely everything they can to improve. So so you might improve, and still not surpass some others.

Weren't Jimbo and the boys ranked in the top 6 before losing seven games this year?

Jimbo and the boys are not picked in this article to compete for a national title each of the next 3 years.

I mean they could have at least said Top 10, makes an expanded playoff, competes for national title. I could at least see an argument for that. They are moving to the toughest conference in college football after this year, so that prediction would have still been orange-tinted, but way more anchored in reality.

ironically, A&M probably goes undefeated or only 1-loss if Weigman started from Game 1 last year. He's a boss. Unlike their Quinn Sewers who fkn sucks. Sark literally had to hand the ball off every down in the 2nd half of the season in the clutch due to goofy being unable to complete 5 yard passes consistently.

oh, well that is obviously cause & effect, right goofy? lol. Sips have four 7-loss seasons in the last decade. Their best season is 4-losses, and 8-5 record last year was a cause for a metaphorical parade. lol. And both their QBs sucks. They got one more season to milk playing against a bunch of 3-stars in the Big12.

you need QBs. Things the Sips still suck at even in their truck-stop conference with their overrated QBs.

it is funny, because the article basically bases it all on their 2 QBs who honestly both suck…and their recruiting classes which are pretty equivalent to their past 10 recruiting classes more than not.

This isn't a Longhorns related list. This is from 247 and just linked to by the Longhorns 247 site.

We look for ulterior motives in everything.

It lists us as Top 25, Expanded Playoffs Contender, Expanded Playoffs Contender. That is a pretty favorable projection coming off of a 5-7 season.

Even assuming perennial doormats Colorado and Nebraska turn it around, the projections for them to be top 25 are, shall we say, "optimistic to the point of absurdity"?
