So before the conference championship game, TCU was 12-0 and ranked #3.

So then they go 1-2
  • Lose a close game to K State
  • Win a close game against Michigan
  • Get blown out by Georgia

End the year ranked #2 which is higher than where they started after going 1-2.

Has any other team ever lost 2 of their last 3 games at the end of the season with one of them being a blowout loss and actually moved up in the rankings like TCU did???

Has to be the 1st time this has ever happened, right?

Ohio State was 0-2 in their last two games and you're saying they should move up?

Not trying to bash TCU and understand they beat #2 but so weird to lose 2 of 3 at the end of season and garner a higher ranking.

Probably helps to remember they were playing three extra games because they had an undefeated regular season and 2 of those three games were against the consensus number 1 and number 2 who were also undefeated. How many teams go better than .500 against #1 and #2? Outside of UGA the answer is none. TCU is not the 2nd best team, but no one else did enough on the field to get to play #1 and # 2 back to back.

It's a fugazi.

Nah. Fugazi was a great band. It's more like Nickelback or Shinedown.

Is it predetermined that 1 and 2 are whoever played in finals, regardless of outcome?

Pretty much yes

And it should be.

If you win a game and are the champ, the loser is automatically No. 2

If you play in a crappy conference and don't win it, and then set a record for the largest bowl loss in history, you have no business finishing at #2.

I mean are we really arguing over whether a team that barely beat SMU and Baylor and lost a game by ~60 is the 2nd best team in the country? A dozen teams would open as a 1+ TD favorite against them

Who should be number 2? The team that was 0-2 in their last two games and didn't play in their conference championship game at all? Or should it be the team that TCU beat head to head?

There are lots of other 1- and 2-loss teams that didn't set the record for worst bowl loss in the history of football. Choose one of them.

If you beat Baylor and SMU by a combined 8 points and lose another game by 60, you clearly aren't the 2nd best team in the country. This isn't rocket science.
