Seen a lot of comments on Hogville like this. I'm looking forward to seeing what this offense looks like.

So lemme get this straight:....

The coach who (in only 4 seasons) led us to
- 2 straight 10-win seasons for third time in school history
- our 3rd ever 11 win season
- our only BCS game, that we should've won
- our 4th ever Top 5 finish

who also...
- Is the winningest head coach in Louisville history
- Gave louisville its first BCS Bowl win, First 12 win season, only top 10 finish, and Heisman winner.
- Sent Missouri State to the FCS playoffs for the 3rd and 4th time in its school history after a 20 year drought
- Torched and almost beat us with Missouri State.

is now an OC at a school that
- Has a defensive minded coach with national title experience
- In a very fertile recruiting ground with huge boosters.
- has beaten us 10 of the past 11 seasons as an SEC member.
- has struggled having a decent offense despite nearly beating Alabama 2 years in a row with a backup QB.

Lol this is a BIG problem for us that no "aggies gonna aggie" regurgitation is going to fix. Texas A&M has only been a decent QB away from being a big problem, and Petrino will definitely find one

This is the rational most of us can see. Stigma of his firing at arky aside, he is not a bad coach. Let him get our offense going and judge the results on the field. But this hire didn't happen without thought.

Arkansas fans know this man can coach offense. The wife is a hog and she knows good and well the scary potential behind this hire

Jimbo is a defensive minded head coach? That may explain why our offense sucks.

The last defensive minded coach at A&M was RC. Fran was neither offensive or defensive minded. This guy's argument made sense until he said that.

I remember Petrino having huge success with Ryan Mallett at QB during those years. Mallett was a good college QB and a journeyman in the NFL. However, I have to believe he is excited to work with Weigman who unlike Mallett or Jackson is already a more refined QB as a freshman.

I think people that are familiar with his body of work know that he is a good hire. I think the outrage is more around the fact that this is not the hire many people wanted.

Fran had little Debbie's on his mind.

Speaking of the one QB that signed with us, he came out of nowhere. I wonder if Petrino had anything to do with this young man committing to us?

Jimbo plus Parreno might be a great combination. Let's wait and see.

If this was our first choice:
1 why did we wait until after he signed at UNLV as an OC?
2 why weren't other big programs trying to hire him?

With every minute that passes, the hire gets better and better.

That's probably a terrible thing.

The above is encouraging. I hope recruits read the Hog board instead of Texags. I agree Petrino being a good offensive coach. If he's mellowed a bit in dealing with the players we may all be happy with this hire. As for his past indiscretions, nobody will be talking about those if the forecasts above transpire. Besides, he may have turned all of that around...hopefully you can't punish him forever. Otherwise, I'm in big trouble.

I think you're implying that Jimbo is a defensive minded coach. Incorrect.

as far as Petrino finding a QB, we already found one. His name is Conner Weigman

Good coach, ****ty person. One of the comments that sticks out to me from the screenshots above is, "If they can hold Bobby there for 2 years..." Petrino is always looking for his next gig. He's been a big time HC and that's what he'll be looking for. No way he stays at OC long. With Harbaugh potentially leaving Michigan and Leach passing, the coaching carousel will be in full swing in a few months. It wouldn't shock me if he found something and wasn't even here in August.

I've been upbeat with the hire since the beginning. Regardless of his past indiscretions, he's a damn good offensive minded coach. Jimbo needs to act as the CEO HC now and let BP take the reins.

If Petrino has desires, and I'm sure he does, to be a head coach again at a power five school he knows he has to shine really shine as OC with the talent he'll have to coach.
I think the next couple of years should be huge for A&M. The Arkansas and Louisville fans know that.
As posted above if he is successful he won't be here long. That's a given.

Just listen to the Loochador podcast that was posted yesterday. Seemed pretty clear to me that Riley was #1
Billy reeled off a long list of people that A&M talked to and decided not to pursue.
It sounded like the UW OC was #2 and Petrino was #3.

Let him leave for a HC Job after 2 seasons. That will mean that we did very well.

2 years? If he does turn the offense around next year I fully expect him to be gone before the bowl game. At this point I would take it.

Yes, he is.

The reason Mond walked the clock down to 5sec every play was to shorting the game and limit Offensive possessions.

It is very methodical with ball control. It is what most people hate about this "antiquated" system where people want the Mike Leach (RIP) Air-Raid.

This!

I posted this on another thread.

Petrino hasn't changed. Hell, with his track record, he may not make it to spring practice without sneaking out the back door. His own players called him a coward. He leaves UNLV after 3 weeks and the narrative is UNLV is the real winner. There is a reason for this.

He doesn't just bring X's and O's with him. He brings a list of bad choices as well.

I sure hope I'm wrong.

we had the air raid with Summy, problem with, and always has been with the air raid is your force unit spends 70-80 plays a game on D.

Vinny, Excuse our fans' ignorant responses - the only football most of them ever got close to was their straight a nerd kids playing Madden. They don't understand that Jimbo's offensive philosophy is defensive minded because he builds it to complement his defense in terms of ball control, physicality. And time of game when to go fast, field position and clock dictating personnel and play calls. You really have to spell things out around here. And since the entire state of Texas has gone spread no huddle with no defense played in high school or D1 colleges they really don't know what football looks like. And they rely on their Baylor and Tshirt sip friends who are into sports to tell them what they need to know.

So you think Marcel Reed signed with us because Jimbo told him that we were going to sign Petrino and not to be worried when Petrino signs with UNLV because it's just a ploy to trick everyone?

My son is a Hog and said the same things as the OP. Other than the morals, he's a good coach. He said to me "well I enjoyed the last few years of competitive games with you, but that's over now".

Made Arkansas much better than they were previously. (and they fell apart right after he left)

Turned Missouri State around to get their first FCS playoff berths in back-to-back seasons. (first playoffs since 1990...first ever back-to-back)

Good coach...bad morals....but presumably he learned his lesson in the last 10 years.

Obviously using A&M as a stepping stone job, but what coach isn't using an OC position as a stepping stone? Keep him 1 or 2 seasons and let him do some good things and move on somewhere else.

all I ever heard was Jimbo was a "QB Whisperer"....not sure how that aligns with him being defensive minded.
