Shows that an expanded playoff is going to be good for college football

Lots of teams that would never have gotten a chance in a 4 team model are going to prove they belong
An expanded playoff probably means that many times the best team might not win the championship. The champion might quite often be the team that makes the playoffs and stays relatively injury-free.

Could be, or it could be that the team that wins is actually the best team at the end of the season rather than the team that had the best season

Wrong. Odds are going to be better that a team that lost it's last regular season game or CCG is going to win. Like TCU.

What you got?
A good coach does not need 5+ years and a roster full of 5-stars to make it to the finals.

The lesson is simple - teams don't succeed at the highest level without exceptional QB play. We have fallen short. Three really good QBs yesterday and one good one. Not to mention Bryce Young.

Yesterday all four teams had good QBs and scored points in a hurry. Now Jimbo has a good QB so I want to see what he, or a new OC, can do with him.

If people think that only the favorites will win in the 12 team playoff they got some surprises in store for them.

Let's just hope the Ags can find themselves among the top 12 on occasion.

Agreed

Would loved to have seen what our 2012 and 2020 teams could have done in a 12 team playoff

I think the 2012 team would have had a shot. I think there was a real chance (not saying it was the most likely outcome as I don't expect we beat Alabama a second time).

I don't expect the 2020 team would have done well in an expanded playoffs.

Lesson: Strength of recruiting classes are a joke. Look what TCU did with their talent.

Per 247 sports.

2019 - A&M 4th
2019 - TCU 32nd

2020 - A&M 6th
2020 - TCU 23rd

2021 - A&M 8th
2021- TCU 54th

2022 - A&M 1st
2022 - TCU 45th

2023 - A&M 13th
2023 - TCU 18th

All for teams had incredibly experienced OLines.

A&M was at 12 yrs experience. We had 2 starting true Freshmen (Dewberry & Green-TE).

TCU:
Quote:

TCU's Offense had all upperclassmen:

LT: Coleman (RS Jr-Tr) - graduated HS in 2018. 5yrs
LG: Avila (RS Sr) - graduated HS in 2018. 5yrs
OC: Ali (RS Sr-Tr) - graduated HS in 2017. 6yrs
RG: Harris (RS Sr) - graduated HS in 2017. 6yrs
RT: Coker (RS Jr) - graduated HS in 2019. 4yrs
TE: Wiley (Sr-Tr) - graduated HS in 2019. 4yrs
That's 30 yrs expereince on the OL+TE.

#1 Georgia has
2 RS Jr, 3 RS So, So. <- So 1 with less than 3. 19 yrs experience
4, 3, 2
RS Sr QB

#2 Michigan
Gr, RS Jr, Gr, Jr, RS Jr, Sr (TE)
5, 4, 5, 3, 4, 4 = 25yrs

#4 Ohio State
Jr, RS Fr, RS So, Gr, Sr, RS Jr
3, 2, 3, 5, 4, 4 = 21yrs

#5 Bama
3 RS Sr, Jr, SO, Fr on their OL+TE. 21 yrs experience
Jr QB

#6 Tennessee
RS So-Tr, Sr, Jr, Jr, Sr, RS Sr.
3, 4, 3, 3, 4, 5 = 22 yrs

#7 Clemson has a pretty salty and experienced OL.
GR, Jr, Sr, Jr, Fr, Sr (TE)
5, 3, 4, 3, 1, 3 = 19 yr

Out of the Top 7 teams... only Bama had more than 1 OL with less than 3 years of college, and they had 3 RS Srs.

Find me the highest rank team that has less than 19 years experience on the OL+TE.

Lesson from yesterday: the media is ALWAYS biased in favor of B1G teams, Texas, Notre Dame, USC and Alabama. Then they get slapped back to reality.

That's an overused myth.

Record:
2018: 7-6
2019: 5-7
2020: 6-4
2021: 5-7
2022: 13-1

Transfers:
2019: 5, tOSU, Ga, USCe, K-St, two 4*
2020: 6, LSU, Auburn, Nebraska, OU. 5* and 4*
2021: 6, Miss St, A&M, OU, Two were HS 4*
2022: 14,Ga, FSU, Sips (2), Missouri. Two were HS 4*
Coming:
2023: 4, two from Alabama, 1 from Georgia, 1 from Fl A 5* and 3 4*s

TCU started an incredibly old team.

On Offense, their 3 youngest players were Jrs. The rest were at least RS Jrs. 4 starters were Transfers (not included in your numbers).

On Defense, they had 1 Freshman. 3 Jrs as their 4 youngest players. The rest were at least RS Jrs. 5 starters were Transfers (not included in your numbers).

TL ; DR... 9 of the 22 starters for TCU were not part of your strength in recruiting.

TCU took great advantage of the Covid Rules. Players given a 6th year (two of their OL, at least), ability to offer more than 85 scholarships... Transfer Portal.

Kudos to them, but let's not pretend they are a team of 3*s

One last statistic... 12 of the 22 TCU Starters are listed as Sr or RS Sr.

It's shows what 35 days off can do.

It allows teams to get healthy and for coordinators to over plan for the game.

I don't think Ohio St or TCU look that good coming off if 1-2 weeks rest.

The expanded playoffs will expose teams that are sneaking in and playing like crap down the stretch.

No more 35 days off.

B1G is overrated.

That being said, I wasn't surprised TCU won. But I wouldn't have picked them. Pregame, I expected it to be close until Michigan run over them from late in the 3rd qtr on.

Having several weeks off gives more time to scheme, and recuperate from injuries. It helps a "lessor" team with a good coach.

TCU did what they needed to do.....get some turnovers, get up early, and get the calls.

TCU played the game of their life with (2) pick six plays and beat an injured MI team by (5).

I agree with this. Johnny cared about nothing except getting into the end zone. Those were his words. Mond, well, yeah I'm not convinced he knew there was an end zone.

It's cute that folks think the Ags will magically get their chance when an expanded playoff happens. How many seasons have we actually finished in the top 10 ?

2 in the last 10. would have had a very real chance to win it in 2012 with a playoff.
They had a puncher's chance in 2020 although it still would've been long odds.
