After a 7-7 tie with 2:21 left in the 1st quarter, Georgia outscored LSU 43-23 to demolish LSU 50-30 in the SEC Championship Game. As a result, Georgia improved to 13-0 and have won 15 straight games, 14 of them by 10+ points. Also, Georgia won their 4th SEC Championship and 1st since 2017. I noticed several other trends.
1. Georgia has won 31 of 32 games, dating back to their last 4 games of 2020. Their only loss in that span was a 41-24 loss to Alabama in last year's SEC Championship Game.
2. Georgia avenged a 37-10 beatdown by LSU in the 2019 SEC Championship Game and defeated LSU for the first time since a 44-41 win on 9/28/2013. This is Kirby Smart's first win over LSU in 3 tries. The only SEC West team he has yet to beat is Ole Miss, which he can do on 11/11/23.
3. This is the 5th time Georgia and LSU played in the SEC Championship Game, and Georgia beat LSU in that game for the 2nd time and 1st time since a 34-14 rout in the 2005 SEC Championship Game.
4. The SEC East champion wins the SEC Championship Game for just the 2nd time in 14 years.
