Back in the day it seemed that sip/A&M was the biggest game in the state of Texas. Not sure how much exposure it got nationally, but it was a bigger deal in state than boomer/sip was from my viewpoint.

It was a fun game to look forward to.

A&M/sip was bigger in the fact it often decided the SWC. OU/sip was bigger in that it often set a path to a possible NC, the unique stadium orientation, and you could lose that game and still play for your conference championship. Also states bragging rights. Once the Big12 formed OU/sip was bigger just because the teams were better.

OU rivalry was with NU. Tex/OU became huge with Brown and Stoops

Were you born after 1990? This was always a huge rivalry. Those coaches made it relevant again after a down period.

Surprisingly, not playing a game for 10 years will make it less relevant.

Our relationship with UT may be technically a rivalry but the 76-37-5 shows it's been more of annihilation and more or less us being annoying little brother who thinks we're on the same level as big brother. The sooner we move on from obsessing about UT the closer we are too building our own identity.

The problem with our rivalry with Texas is that it was very rare that both of us were good at the same time. It did occasionally decide the SWC title, but there were very few instances where it was a ranked vs. ranked matchup.

The other problem is the rivalry is so lopsided. Texas has 76 wins to our 37 (5 ties). When one team wins 2/3 of the games, it won't be recognized nationally as a big rivalry. Since scholarship limitations were put in place the rivalry has been much closer. Over half of our wins against Texas (19) have come since 1970.

Yea, we all hate the 'sips (and rightfully so), but when you're talking about great, nationally recognized rivalries, we're not on that list.

Over the entire history of the tu A&M rivalry.....

tu dominates. 76-37-3. A&M won less than half the games. Most people outside of Texas wouldn't call that a "rivalry" at all.

HOWEVER. if you look at the last 50 years, starting in 1972, this thing heats up. tu 21 A&M 19.
Now that looks like a damn good rivalry, and it was stupid to discontinue it.

As far as LSU...Who cares? you can't just artificially create a "rivalry". Which is why playing in the SEC is such as drag for me. Way too many of these games lack what I call "juice". Okay, maybe Arkansas. ( Old SWC). maybe Alabama ( Bear Bryant). after that? Missouri ZZZZZZ....Auburn ZZZZZ. South Carolina ZZZZZ. Old Miss ZZZZ
Miss St. (Jerry Clower and ZZZZZZ). And the SEC making us play an OOC game near the end of the season? UMASS ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

A few years ago, we were playing Ole Miss on the road. Sumlin may have still been here.. Boring game, boring opponent. I actually switched over to tu vs TCU at Amon Carter field. Damn good game. My wife asked me why I was watching them instead the Aggies , I said " this used to be my old neighborhood, and I miss my old neighborhood." ( Okay...before any of you zealots wanna burn me at the stake, I switched back and forth.)

Maybe I'm just getting older. And this has very little to do with this dismal season. I've felt this way for quite awhile. The SEC just doesn't do it for me. I miss my old neighborhood.

while its not one of the "top 5 rivalries in football" everyone across the country does understand its a rivalry, and a big one at that.

the records between the two don't matter. thats the whole point. is Bedlam not a rivalry?

Luke the Drifter nailed it on why this is not big nationally. both teams being in top 5, or even top 10, was a rarity.

Texas A&M - LSU is a fabricated rivarly that A&M has wanted to become this big time rival game and it has not.

A&M/ LSU had to be moved off thanksgiving because there was too many empty seats.
In baseball , the last season we played Texas at home our biggest crowd of the season was not a weekend game vs lsu. No it was a Tuesday night game vs Texas.

Our rival is Texas , people can pretend it's not and pretend it's someone else but it's not.
When we start playing them again all across the board the rivalry will pick right back up

I whole heartedly agree!! Being a born and raised Texan it will always be more fun to beat another Texas school because of the relationships. The move to the SEC has made for better family road trips, but the games don't mean as much. There's nobody to come home to tease or make fun of.

And this made up LSU rivalry thing is just plain silly!!! But hey, that's why there are good Aggie jokes.

I think that what you really meant is that A&M has won less than half as many games as tu has won in the series.

However, since I became an Aggie (fall '81), the good guys have 15 wins vs 16 losses - so pretty even.

No, AnM has also lost more than half the games played in the entire series. Total 116 games played and only 37 wins. In fact this simply isn't even technically a rivalry with how dominate they've been.

Took me about 2 minutes to find the information and post. A little less than it took you to make up a story and type it up. We both of plenty of free time left today.

No one cares about A&M and lsu. LOTS of aggies and horns hate each other. It is a huge rivalry and always has been.

Our Fight Song. We're probably the only school who sings about how much we hate another school....Texas.

This game determined a conference champion hardly ever and really never had any national importance.

It's a good in state matchup with no real history of national title or conference title implications.

Same day as the fictional channel flipping between horns-frogs & Ags-rebs games?

The record is lopsided for obvious reasons that have been mentioned numerous times on TexAgs. Most Ags can't stand tu and vice versa. I guarantee when we play them again that Kyle and DKR will be at max capacity and will be extremely loud. The hate/dislike runs deep for those who were in school when we played each other every year. I consider them easily our biggest rival.

Based on the true definition of the word rivalry that essentially makes everyone who competes against each other rivals. And we haven't competed against UT since leaving the Big 12. Of course fans of the team getting their teeth kicked in want it to be a true sports rivalry.
