I know this was at Maryland but if some of this is true, it could give some clues as to the reasons the defense has not improved. Is this culture Durkin had at Maryland happening on the defensive side here?

.J. urkin is just an ill equipped coach to scheme with the players he has on our roster (much like our OC). He did well @ Ol Miss because he actually had quality depth at LB and some experienced players.

Very insightful response. Must have had to think that through for quite some time to get your thoughts together.

The defensive efficiency is not nearly that good. We play at a very slow pace and a low possessions per game clip.

The scoring defense metric isn't one of the better metrics for gauging defensive performance.

The correllary to this was our 2020 offense which wasn't at the top of any scoring offense rankings, but was one of the best scoring efficiency offenses in the country. That performance led us to a 5 national ranking. Yes, that was a Jimbo offense.

Bring back the Chief

The reboot button needs to get pressed.

If the OC and OL coaches are home runs, it won't matter when we are still giving up 200+ on the ground.

Give me a break...Only on TexAgs forum can A&m have one of the worst run defenses in the entire history of Aggie football and people on here say it is not a problem.

Durkin took a defense that was good against the run last year, got some top notch talent and transformed them into a bad defense. The SEC west was down this year and yet every team ran all over us.

Yes, the Offense has major problems but the defense was a HUGE disappointment this year. And yes Durkin is a major problem.

The defense has given up an average of 21 ppg. That's the #33 scoring D in the nation. And it's better than Elko did in his first 2 years.

Totally incorrect.

Such a fallacy to say they were gassed. Most scoring plays happened at beginning of halves or after we tied up the score.

They were heavily rested when Ole Miss ran all over us. They were rested before South Carolina drove all the way down the field to ice the game.

And? What's the goal of a defense in football? To keep the other team from scoring. And the Ags have been pretty good at that. Could the rush defense improve? Sure. What's the possible cause of that? Getting beat at the line of scrimmage? That's a damn good possibility. And why would that be? Could it be all those freshmen playing against Juniors and Seniors? I bet that's a big part of it.

Why is the pass defense #2 in the country? Why don't they suck since Durkin is so bad as a DC? More experience is my guess.

The Chief is proof that it's not necessarily the coach, but it's us. Our program is cursed and unable to get over the hump. Great coaches at other schools come here and struggle. Is just the way it is.

My BAS doesn't allow me to see it any other way.

This place has spun off the rails for the most part. It's like people can't think rationally because they are so angry. I was termed delusional this morning in another thread for posting some of what you just stated. Folks need to take a deep breath and settle down a bit. Is everything ok? No, of course not. But there are logical reasons for that and firing the entire coaching staff isn't the solution.

And our defense has done that WITH our offense turning it over constantly and engineering short drives followed by punts.

Three down linemen against run-capable offenses especially that run tempo seems like a good idea that didn't work or needed more athletic and physical LBs. a 3-3-5 foot s almost understandable if the nickel is like a LB with respect to the tun or strong safety is in a true cover but up. I don't understand what I saw any more than anyone else did, but I think there was a thought behind it.

For both outcomes stronger LBs seem the answer. Whether 3-4-4 with better pass responsibilities or 4-2-5. That we leaked long runs like a sieve was due to covering gap responsibilities according uobyye players, but something else could have caused consistent inconsistency.

If Durkin were to return, he needs to be accountable for what didn't make sense either with more effective D, lower scoring D, or less bad odor.

You misspelled Tim Deruyter.

It's pretty simple... He sucks at math. He tries to put 4 players in a space where the other team has 5 blockers. We rely on the secondary to stop the run too much which is not a winning recipe.

Against Ole Miss Durkin had 2 DL on left of center and 1 DE wide right. Guess what happened?? Judkins ran through the parting of the Red Sea that Durkins gave them for 48 yards to set up the go ahead touchdown. We have the players, we need coaches to put them in the right places and give them the chance to win.
