No way Jimbo would have had the timeouts or the play calls to get in to FG range for that comeback
TCU didn't have any timeouts on the last drive
correct but they had all three of them to take on defense to get the ball back. It were Jimbo he would have at least one less and the rapists could have run out the clock

See my post. Horrible and unneeded risk. Got away with it, but that doesn't make it smart.

Then run, run, spike not run, spike, run with no timeouts.

Idiotic clock management regardless of outcome.

You honestly can't be defending that as good coaching. Yes, they won. But not because of coaching. They got lucky as hell. Baylor holds up the runner and he gets 1 or 2 more yards, game over. Baylor subs forcing the refs hand, game over. Hell just a jittered snapper, kicker, holder because of the chaos, game over.

Again, run where you want on first down and it's not rushed chaos.

So why didn't he run to the middle of the field on first down? If jimbo did that this board would be up in arms because of the absolute terrible clock management, and deservedly so.
Jimbo is trying to beat Umass for the fourth and last win of the year, he should be elevated to a conversation about an undefeated team.

Pretty freaking stupid play call. Lucky it worked out. Technically since they were subbing, should the refs have held the snap?
Good question. The TCU sideline would've gone apesh/t if the refs had held it, but I'm not sure if they should have.

Why not? If you sub with 5 seconds on the play clock the refs stand over it even if the play clock runs to 0. Why is this different?

Only thing I can see is if the rule specifically says you don't have to hold the play for a special teams sub
This is what some refs said in discussing this situation (not for this specific game):
http://www.refstripes.com/forum/index.php?topic=8553.0

If the game clock at the end of the previous play is at 40 seconds or less and is running, and there is no delay on the part of Team A in running their field goal team out onto the field or in running their offense up to the line for another snap, the Umpire will spot the ball as quickly as possible and we will not interrupt the game clock if it is running nor will we delay in making the ball ready for play. Because time here is far more critical, the Umpire will spot the first ball he can get his hands on, which will usually be the ball the runner has as the previous play ends. If that ball comes loose near the sideline, the sideline officials or ball boys should be prepared to toss the Umpire a ball immediately so that there is no delay in getting the ball spotted.

It is obvious in this situation that there is no attempt by the offensive team to disguise or delay in substituting, so the defensive team needs to be prepared to substitute accordingly. The issue sometimes involves the defense creating a delay that might cause the Referee to hold up making the ball ready for play and the game clock subsequently running out. Inside of 40 seconds we will not do this. Since there is no delay on the part of the offense to substitute, and the play clock is not an issue since we are under 40 seconds, if the defense is caught with more that 11 players, the penalty will be on the defense and the offense will have its normal options depending upon whether or not the field goal is successful. Likewise, the offense if caught with more than 11 players on the field when the ball is snapped will also be subject to a penalty. Both teams need to be immediately ready to play in this situation. As a reminder, more than 11 players on the field is reviewable and we would expect an immediate stoppage by the Replay Official if there is any question regarding the number of players on the field by either team.

After Baylor led TCU 28-20 with 9:47, TCU ended the game with 9 unanswered points to beat Baylor 29-28 on the road and improve to 11-0 (8-0 Big 12). TCU already clinched a Big 12 Championship apperance, but they became the first Big 12 team to start 11-0 in the College Football Playoff Era.

Except he didnt have time. As the FG team ran out, BU should have subbed in for a DL and taken their time running in and off and the game over.
Maybe changing to special teams does not come with the same sub rules for the D?

If not, Aranda screwed the pooch.

That has nothing to do with letting the defense sub.

Again. See my post "unneeded" risk.

I can give you $20 or we can flip a coin and if you guess right I give you $20, which would you pick?

I added another paragraph from the explanation that I cited. They are specifically addressing whether or not they should stop the clock to let the defense sub.

Did Dykes hire Les Miles as his special clock management consultant? That was just plain stupid.

Lol. How the hell do you think they were prepared for that ending? Jumbo could F that up 10000000 different ways.

Dude. I'm not defending jimbo in anyway whatsoever so not sure why that's relevant.

Fact: stupid play calling could have ended that game and TCU's chances for a playoff birth. Yes. They were prepared to sub quickly and kick. I give them that.

You're still ignoring everything else. Again, what happens if the runner gets 5 more yards?

Why not run where you want on first down? Or second down? Why the hell run to the opposite side you want the kick from on first, then spike the ball on second, if you're going to run on 3rd? It's 100% an unnecessary risk.

Truly baffled anyone is defending that as not being poor clock management.

How many times would we have to try that play before getting it right. I mean we've had multiple delay of game and false start penalties coming out of time outs and end of quarters. It took us almost as long to get set and spike the ball against Bama as it took TCU to get their FG team out there and set

the Les Miles school of clock management. Dykes team bailed him out, but props to him for having his team prepared and disciplined enough to get it done in spite of him putting them in that position

Why are people so insufferable? He never said we're better than Baylor. Yes, they'd likely beat us. Doesn't mean a team ranked #4 shouldn't handle them easily

I guess we suck so absolutely no discussion about college football can happen…..
