Good question. The TCU sideline would've gone apesh/t if the refs had held it, but I'm not sure if they should have.

Why not? If you sub with 5 seconds on the play clock the refs stand over it even if the play clock runs to 0. Why is this different?

Only thing I can see is if the rule specifically says you don't have to hold the play for a special teams sub

There's literally zero reason for the risk. Want to run another play throw to the sideline. Or just let more time run off on the second down play before the spike.

So why didn't he run to the middle of the field on first down? If jimbo did that this board would be up in arms because of the absolute terrible clock management, and deservedly so.
