Caveat: only because I met him (briefly) recently.

Dan Lanning

I live in Eugene and take a walk with my dog every morning which takes me through the Autzen complex on my way to the dog park at Alton Baker Park. A week or so ago I was walking through right as practice was letting out and we watched the team go by and the coaches followed shortly after and one commented on my A&M hat and my UO hoodie. I explained that I was a displaced Texan but rooted for the local team as well. We talked for a minute or so and he thanked me for the support, then actually introduced himself. He seems like a pretty decent guy. I just wish they hadn't lost to Washington a few days later. I started to ask about the Georgia game, but didn't want to be "that guy" since that was his first game as HC.

Kevin Sumlin. With this talent score a 100, give up 99.

Kyle Whittingham. Makes 1/2 Jimbo's salary and yet has top 25 teams consistently with 3 star recruits, sending many into the NFL.

Let's stop hiring coaches on the back side of their careers.

So no on Sunny Dykes.

We are looking for the next Ryan Day. Not the next Pirate.

He'd ask the board what to do constantly, and with the wealth of intellectual and wisdom on this board when it comes to college football....we'd go undefeated.

Every.

Year.

Absolutely not.

The guy is a moral cesspool and a piece of human garbage. We can do better.

To be fair, he was right about Jimbo not being as good of a coach as we thought he would be when all of us thought he was going to be great here.

He has one massive W over a whole lot of us.

I think the only coach that could win 10+ next year with this team is Lincoln Riley. I also think hiring him would keep everyone here.

Unfortunately if we offered him 15mm a year, USC would match. He is the most untouchable coach out there.

So really you got to look at who could stop the bleeding. For someone who would be possible (maybe) I would look at Fickle. Kingsbury might be done at Arizona, he would be a good hire as well. Could probably stop the upcoming mass exodus and turn it around fast. I wouldn't hesitate to give the keys to Kliffy at 7 or 8 a year.

For those who choose Leach.... he has won 10 games a season only twice in 21 years of coaching.

what makes you think he would win 10 here? So stupid --
Much better talent pool here than other places he's been.

So stupid

Kliff would be another option. He went back home so to speak so doing that gig again probably wouldn't be appealing to him. Maybe he enjoyed his time in Aggieland and the SEC and he would love the opportunity if approached.

Stop buying stocks at the top. Get something at a discount and if it doesn't work out no worries.

I'd take a risk on an up and coming coordinator with some energy and an ability to make in game adjustments.
Plus with an up and comer, it's possible we might be able to be in a more mutually attractive contract.

No remotely "name" coach is going to touch us. We are tarred with the reputation that this is where careers come to die and/or fade away. Jackie was the exception, not the rule, in that he actually had a good run at State after us.

Even an up-and-comer isn't going to want this job, because of the potential damage it can do to a career. For a coach over a certain age, that's a strong consideration, because you may not have time left to pull a Frieze and find a program that will let you rehab yourself as a HC.

So you're going to have to find someone not only with talent, but who is young enough to risk coming here and then getting booted after five years. So that's Fleck and Campbell out the door, and Arandas as well.

We're the worst negotiators in college football, absolutely ripe for being financially taken advantage of, and you're saying top talent isn't going to come here? For decades now coaches who come to A&M get PAID.

I'd think we're still in the running for almost anyone who's actually in the market for a HC job.

I disagree. This isn't Austin. We aren't calling for firing after year one. Well, not anyone who matters.

And Kevin landed a pretty good gig after he was let go here. His fault he flopped.

He would not be my pick...but he does have a pretty good record at Kyle. That will probably guarantee 7 wins at home. He'll just have to find 3 wins on the road.

If we are talking about someone who could take this current roster, instill some discipline and pride, and win 10 games in year 1 with competent decisions then the choice is easy....Dan Campbell

I'm curious as to why a lot of people want him here when he's failing harder as a head coach than Nick Saban during his time at the Miami Dolphins.
