If we do actually go through with firing Jimbo, which from what I hear is a real possibility, who would we hire that would need minimal time to rebuild and could immediately win with this roster, some transfers, and some of their own recruits?

I think with this current roster (and if we can keep most of it), success in year 1 is very possible.

Just off the top of my head, recent year 1 successes: Lane Kiffin and Sonny Dykes.

I love the pirate as much as any Ag, but he absolutely has a ceiling of about 10 wins. I think either himself or his teams cannot handle high level success. His absolute best teams top out at about 10-2. The 2 losses would be against the worst team on the schedule too, this year it would probably be UMass and Auburn.

You guys with the same retread coach hire suggestions. I say we try something novel and not go for the big splash hire paying big bucks. It's not worked since 1982 when we hired Jackie. It's been a bust ever since.

I don't know who he is, but there has to be a good up and coming assistant who know x and o's who can recruit, develop talent, and build a program. That's the guy we need to find and hire under a sane reasonable contract.

PS keep in mind this is all wishful thinking because we are not getting rid of Jimbo anytime soon.

But that wasn't the question. The question was, who would get 10 wins in year 1...the answer is: The Pirate

Jimbo will be our coach next season but if I had to pick then Bear Bryant

Based on recent history...Kiffin.

I saw Gus Malzhan on here too and that's not the worst idea. However, I would really want to see how his offense has changed the past couple of years at UCF and if it has developed. Gus was in a similar position to Jimbo with a poor offense/playcalling situation years ago.

For those who choose Leach.... he has won 10 games a season only twice in 21 years of coaching.

what makes you think he would win 10 here? So stupid --

Traylor would be a home run long term, and the growing pains wouldn't be long at all. There are a lot of others out there too, but he is due for a big time job and will be big time.

If you want 10 wins in year 1 you need the right hire and some other things to fall right. It doesn't usually happen unless it's an internal transition or a soft schedule.

You guys suck at this. Everyone you named so far would have us back here looking for a coach in 5 years or less. Beating the sips in recruiting is as important as anything. Traylor & Dykes couldn't.

Locks:

Urban Meyer
Matt Rhule
Joe Brady (riskiest of this group)
Dave Aranda

Luke Fickell. He can coach and recruit. As long as Ryan Day keeps winning he'll never land the Ohio state job like he desires. Every Cincinnati coach has gone on to win at their other schools.

Meyer is radioactive.
Rhule is awesome but requires just a little patience.
Brady is a young buck that needs to cut his teeth running a program before he's ready. He is a talented play caller though.
A lot of folks here would HATE Aranda. He is not going to play that game with people that want their hand in it here.

Someone said Fickell. That would be a good one for sure but he kind of has a great gig right now.

Is Brady looking to be a college coach? I was under the impression he wasn't into the recruiting/management aspect of the college game.

Young Riley.

Just tune up the offense to 35/game and we'll be fine.

He has a great gig, sure, but it will take a lot to repeat that undefeated season again. He just may be waiting for the right opportunity. His player's play hard for him and seems like he has good control over the program. I'd hire him because he's proven he can coach and win in a state that produces a lot of talent at a school that's mostly an afterthought.

I've gotten that impression too. I was just responding that I wouldn't necessarily let his first head coaching job be in the SEC when he hasn't been doing the administrative side of it at all. As far as his interest, I wouldn't expect there to be a lot. I don't know that for sure though.

Sean Payton. Pay the man. Don't see us cutting ties with Jimbo, though. He needs a chance to clean house and get HIS players in. There will be a year or 2 of rebuilding but it will be worth it. We will come out the other side better and play AGGIE football.

Although good, no way he would entertain the thought. He's been in the NFL too long and the adjustment would be huge. As a Saints fan, I'd approve but he wants a gig in the NFL. No babysitting….

Stop buying stocks at the top. Get something at a discount and if it doesn't work out no worries.

I'd take a risk on an up and coming coordinator with some energy and an ability to make in game adjustments.

I wouldn't have those dip***** anywhere near this program, especially Kiffin!

In any hypothetical, Fickell is at the top of my list. That said, I really don't think he's in much of a hurry to leave.
