I mean, it's not possible to know- but bottom line is that we weren't investing in the football program under rc and everyone else was.

RC used "young and inexperienced" every year too. It's almost like we still have him.

RC said his biggest regret was firing Toledo.

And when Sumlin took over play calling from Babers, the 9-games he called plays the offense scored more points, yards, etc. than the 15-games Babers called. Sumlin was NOT the problem with that offense.
Neither was Babers, or Toledo, or Ensminger, etc.

I agree sherm deserved a shot with his recruits in the SEC.

RC would have benefited from the kind of investment that's now being put into the program.

However, he just couldn't muster consistently great offenses like he could defenses.

Anyone remember

Toledo
Kragthorpe
Marshall
Ensminger
Babers
Sumlin

I recall Toledo doing pretty well offensively at UCLA for a while and Babers/Sumlin's history is well known.

I don't know if it was the head coach stifling the offense then like Jimbo seems to be now, and my memory may not be bulletproof on this but I seem to recall being frustrated just as much with the lack of offensive consistency then as now.

RC was a good coach though, regardless of the revisionist history - he just couldn't seem to get over the hump of getting the teams from good to great.
Is that the same Ensminger that was part of the LSU staff that won NC in 2019? Or maybe his son?

Probably did deserve it, but man would we have had had the 2012 season we had and Johnny win a Heisman if he had stayed?

Fair- but sherm did see something in him to recruit him, so maybe something?

And maybe under sherm Johnny comes out a little more level headed, the way sherm course corrected von?

Lot of maybes

What about Sherman's 3 out of 4 losing seasons made you want him to stay?

If anything it's the curse of firing RC too late.
I was in school then and it was obvious when Bob Stoops and Mack Brown arrived in conference that RC was done. Then Leach showed up and made the sting of hanging on too long that much worse. Love RC and what he did but the landscape changed quickly and we were slow to decide and decided poorly on Fran

Could have probably landed Urban Meyer if moved a year earlier for context about how poorly A&M handled this period

How about the curse of too much $$$ and over inflated ego how good we think we are without any proof in the pudding.

Aggie football has been and continues to be the biggest nothing burger in NCAA /SEC.

Just because we have one of the highest paid coaching staffs does not make us contenders. It means we know how to throw good money after bad.

Absolutely disgraceful.

I love RC Slocum and don't think we could ask for a better representative of Texas A&M

But it was WAAAAAY past time for him to go. Facilities or no facilities

The fact that he wasn't given one single job offer after he was let go should tell you everything

The curse is that some of you won't let him go and it looks like he is still the coach with the same offense and defense.
Jimbo is getting passed over by the game's evolution just like RC did. No creativity at all on offense.

Not providing funding for facilities for Slocum was on Groff and the 12th Man. Though University leadership is ultimately responsible including BoR.

LOL slocum should have been fired at least 3 years prior to his firing. Then the ******** was allowed to hang around and eff around the program instead of run out on a rail as he should have been

The curse of Harry Stiteler.

Poor guy got assaulted on a booster visit and A&M fired him over it. He loved A&M so much that he retired from coaching and focused on farming rather than relocate. His son went on to become a longtime A&M employee.

Many sportswriters thought he had the Aggies poised to win the SWC in '51 and turn the corner with the program, but he was let go in the Spring.
