Why does he not slide at the end of the runs? In all his runs, he finished it with a head/shoulder first lunge. I hope somebody (aka Jimbo) reminds him he is not built like Tebow or Jalen Hurts.

I just don't see the speed that everyone keeps talks about. I get it. On a track he may run fast but that doesn't always carry over to the football field. I saw many QB's on Saturday that looked quick out of the pocket, much more so than King. And they looked more natural - pull down quickly, slide before contact. Is that the issue? He's more straight line fast and it takes 10 yards to get there vs being quick (e.g. JFF)?

I know it's a small sample size but I'm hoping to see more of his 22 MPH clocked speed on Saturday.

Yeah he looked pretty gangly out there on QB keepers, like a newborn Giraffe or something.

From what we've seen- he is not a great running threat, not great at looking off receivers, makes questionable throwing decisions, and has a tendency to loft his ball. I'm just really dismayed if he is truly our best QB, and I'm pissed if he's not.

Well seeing as he runs like a baby giraffe until he gets in space and doesn't know how to slide it may not matter. King may start the season and never finish one unless he learns how to not take hits

Haynes probably has good break away straight line speed, but when he is trying to manage his way through traffic he runs like a baby giraffe, after all the hype from Jimbo and the Aggie media I need to see a lot more the next two weeks

Sliding would have been difficult on those particular runs. He wasn't in the open field on any of those. Still, I'm concerned sliding is not his natural inclination.

This. I watched the game last night after listening to it on the radio while I was driving on Saturday, and reading the ever increasing garbage after the game here in the zoo.

King did check down from primary receivers MANY times during the game. He also finished with 364 yards and 3 TDs with a couple of excellent, dead on passes that showed accuracy that Mond never had. He also saw and hit in stride a wide open Anias that I don't think was the first target. (Would need to re-watch that play to confirm) Yes, he had 2 picks resulting from bad decisions, but I'm not concerned with that considering it was his 3rd start in an A&M uniform.

I'm more impressed with King's 3rd start than I was with most of Calzada's performances, as well as Mond's first or second years.

For an offense with OL yet to gel and establish a sound running game, he was effective enough to carry the game on his shoulders. Compare that to the Colorado game last year where Zack could not get anything at all going.

The "He didn't go through his reads" comments from fans has me rolling. You have no freaking idea what he see's, goes through his head, what he is coached, and why he makes certain decisions. C'mon man! I hope these really aren't 'thinking people'.

There was one play in particular where his footwork was commented and correctly focused on. As he went through 3 receivers, he adjusted his footwork with each read, then settled on the open cross and completed for a first down.

To your point, the progression was obvious. Anyone arguing that he spend the day dialed in on one receiver is simply not paying attention and/or trying to create a false narrative.

With that said, since Jimbo uses the term "eye violations" referring to both offense and defense, it is worth noting when a lingering look is followed by an INT.

Agreed. In trying to be objective in analysis, King did have times that he dialed in and tried to force a ball that shouldn't have been thrown.

Pretty much like every other QB that we've had over the past couple of decades.

My hope is that with a total of 3 starts under his belt, this will be something that King will be coachable on and will improve on as time goes on.

If we look at Mond's early days vs. his senior year, he developed into a QB that would take what the defense was allowing, and protected the ball much better than early years. I'm expecting the same sort of development with King, but much faster and with a much higher ceiling.
