Can we start using it again please?? I was there the whole game in Kyle Field including the 3 hour weather delay….and was disappointed that there didn't seem more juice in our players….sideline to huddle was a butt slow jog, barely faster than walking….huddle to snap seemed to take forever….seems like we gave SHSU way too much lung air recovery time between plays…. I mean even Bama is using Uptempo to keep the opposing Ds on their heels…..I just think we could benefit if we could be faster to the next play instead of moving like molasses….thoughts??

Our offense is too complicated to run fast apparently. It's as if the qb is having to work out quadratic equations presnap. I could see how this could prevent a qb from operating an an elite level as most who do get into a flow and act instinctively. Sometimes complicated /= better.

It was Sam friggin' Houston. Don't look too much into it.

The rain delay was just another Jimbo tactic to slow the game down.

BTW, slowing the O down works to OUR D's benefit.

Under Sumlin our D always fell apart the 2nd half of the season because they were so worn down being one the field 35min/G.

It was also noted by the announcers that every time we subbed in someone on offense, Sam Houston would intentionally sub in the defensive players as slowly as possible which is why we kept having to wait until 5 or less seconds left on the play clock to run a play. It was annoying but a sound strategic tactic by Sam Houston.

Even programs that don't protect defenses typically pick up a first down before HUNH.

Jimbo's theory is that forcing the QB to play smart early eventually leads to playing fast.

Second half we were playing much faster by moving Anias from slot to RB/FB.

It's a strategy From SHSU that we probably hadn't practiced much, or at the least weren't expecting them to do every single time we subbed. Once we figured it out in the first half, we came back in the second with adjustments and it wasn't really an issue after that.

This.

I'm all for having a versatile offense, but asking for an up-tempo offense can give off a monkey's paw vibe.

I'm for anything that works to my D's benefit.

Wheel route please. Achane to the house!

Seems like almost every college team can not defend it.

Why does anyone expect Jimbo to show everything we have on offense in week 1, against Sam?

I'm not sure why they don't run that play every down. Just saying.

1. I don't think JFF is still on the roster.
2. I recall many back and forth shootouts under the Kingsbury/Sumlin Air Raid offense.

Our offense is so complicated that in the 5 seasons Jimbo's been here, we haven't been able to run it very well.

Completely legit observation. We don't need to play up tempo all the time…not even most of the time. But we need that option at least a quarter of the time. That's one of the big advantages of having Anias Smith and Devon Achane. Both can form 2-back, 1-back and all wide formations that make defenses a prisoner of what they have on the field. It's so frustrating that Jimbo won't incorporate up tempo when circumstances support it.

When you have defensive depth you don't need to play the drain the clock style of offense all the time . This is the first time in a long time I think we are at the point where we don't have to constantly worry about defensive depth.
