I like the fact that he threw it down the field ina game that was well under control. He will learn a ton from the film and will improve. Step back from the ledge. R-E-L-A-X.

This board is hilarious. It spends five years complaining about not throwing downfield. Then, a QB throws downfield and it complains about INTs. Despite 4-5 completions of 20+ including 3 TDs where the ball flew about a combined 120 yards. So crazy.

When you realize that men can be b|tches it will all make sense.

Does the 67% completion rate include the two caught by the other team?

It's much easier to get an aggressive QB to be more conservative than the other way around. Great example is Mond. I'd much rather my QB thinking home run as much as possible.

Uh, no. We had a qb who went on to win the heisman once he was handled by competent coaches

would have been around 80% if he was facing an SEC defense....

Completely agree. You want an aggressive young guy that learns how and when to adjust or check down versus a guy that's scared to throw.

Yeah, Manziel was not a product of coaching, he will tell you that himself. Dude played backyard football and owed half or more of that trophy to Mike Evans.

Haynes King had one great example of checking down, where the announcers pointed out his moving his feet. Otherwise, he continues to force passes, and another crappy defense intercepted him multiple times in his start. It is a huge problem, and as much as Jimbo works with this project, his instincts do not seem to improve. Max Johnson looked so much smoother in the brief time he was in. King is a practice quarterback, but against a good defense in a real game, he is going to get torn apart. Good QBs do not have a 1:1 TD to INT ratio in their careers. Johnson's is 5:1 TD to INT.

Jimbo Fisher's stubbornness is going to sink this season, unless our D can save it. A good, young UNC QB, with now 4 games college career experience, threw 4 TDs against App State's defense with no picks at ASU's home field yesterday. Let's see if King can match that performance at Kyle Field. If he does, it will quiet his critics, including myself.

Haynes King looks like a practice player at best. How long will the 'small sample size' continue to be the excuse?

Max Johnson was 3/4 for 23 yards. While most of King's throws were 15+ yards. Jimbo wants to push the ball down the field this year.

The list comprises 12 SEC quarterbacks who saw at least 20 plays of action. Auburn's TJ Finley did not satisfy the requirement and LSU plays Sunday evening at 7:30 pm EST.

QBR takes the strength of the opponent into account, rating a quarterback's play on a scale of 0-100. Both passing and rushing are included in the projections.
Here's how the list shakes out:
[ol]
  • Stetson Bennett: 97.3
  • Bryce Young: 96
  • Anthony Richardson: 94.8
  • Will Rogers: 82.4
  • KJ Jefferson: 81.7
  • Hendon Hooker: 79.9
  • Jaxson Dart: 79.7
  • Mike Wright: 74.9
  • Brady Cook: 72.5
  • Haynes King: 49
  • Will Levis: 46
  • Spencer Rattler: 28.6
  • [/ol]Rattle struggled in his South Carolina debut while Stetson Bennett looked like an all-star. The significant drop off from Richardson to Rogers and Cook to King is noteworthy as well.

Max wasn't in long enough or in a situation to say he was better or worse than king

King hit some big passes downfield which is something that has been sorely lacking in this offense

It was technically his third start but really only his second because he only took 6 snaps in the cu game

Give him a chance to grow a d develop

I think he'll be noticeably better this week vs app st and get exponentially better by seasons end

How bout this take: Stares down receivers and slow release. Did you see that fact?
    Ags4DaWin
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You throw down field, it will get intercepted occasionally.

You have to pass dowfield regularly to learn how to do it safely.

With Mond there was no option to throw downfield because he either threw it in the dirt or the stands...sure there weren't interceptions but there also weren't any 60 yard touchdown receptions either.

Give king a few weeks to get it figured out.

Peyton manning was criticized year 1 for how many interceptions he threw.

He figured it out pretty quickly.

    This is 100% true.

There are risks with every style of play, but I'd much rather start with an aggressive QB and teach him how to check down or pull back than one who doesn't trust himself to challenge the defense in the first place.

King played about as well as anticipated for an average QB against a middling opponent in the first game of the year.
Anyone expecting him to be a world-beater is sailing the SS Homer in an ocean of maroon kool-aid.
Is he going to take the team on his back and will them to victory in a close game? No. Is he going to lose his mind and throw five picks and single handedly lose a game due to mental lags? No.

Jimbo knows what he has- a game management type who will be helped with a simple playbook and a ton of speed to throw to. I believe that performance Saturday is about what we should expect going forward.

It's true. All week everyone wanted him to throw downfield

That is much more risky than handing off

Now someone says we should have handed off to achane

In another post everyone is gripping about achanes production

I like his aggressiveness. That will lead to IiNT but also big plays. Better to watch as well

How is that a fact? Because you think so? If any of our QBs stared down receivers and had a slow release they would not be on the roster. You have no idea what you are talking about or watching.

First TD of the season was a 60+ yard perfect deep ball to the THIRD read / progression.....
