Is our offensive and defensive lines. We recruited (hopefully) the best D-line ever last year and our O-Line will be even better this year with Fatheree, Moko and Bryce all coming back.

To compete in the SEC teams need to have monsters up front on both sides and we are finally getting to that point.

I know, water is wet blah blah TLDR, whatever. As a former OL myself, I love seeing the big uglies up front maul people.
No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...

Why is it, when we get a new coach everyone expects him to lose a lot of games the first year while he implements his new system, but when MSU and LSU get a new coach they beat us in their first year?

In football, at any level, it always starts up front. A great OL can make average QBs and RBs look fantastic.

A great DL frees up playmakers at LB and DB to make plays and create turnovers.

Yes. Absolutely. Each area of strength helps all the others.

When did this happen?
2017: Ed Orgeron's first season as full time head coach. We lost 45-21 for our 6th consecutive loss to LSU in a conference game and 7th overall. Also, it was our 3rd consecutive loss at Baton Rouge. We still have not won in Baton Rouge since 1994. We had an excellent chance to end that streak last year but gave up the game winning touchdown to lose 27-24.

2018: Joe Moorhead's first season at Mississippi State. We lost 28-13. Mississippi State finished 8-5 (4-4 SEC) but allowed the second fewest points that season behind only Clemson.

2020: Mike Leach's first season at Mississippi State. We won 28-14 in a road game.

2022: We must win every home game, especially Florida and LSU. Billy Napier and Brian Kelly are in their first seasons as head coaches of Florida and LSU respectively,.

Lane Kiffin is in his 3rd season at Ole Miss, but this will be his first trip to Kyle Field because the 2020 home game against Ole Miss was ultimately cancelled. We have no excuse to lose that game either because Ole Miss will be playing their 9th consecutive game and coming off a tough road game at LSU when we play them.

Leach lost to us in his first year and is 11-13 overall at MSU. Orgeron lost to Jimbo in Jimbo's first year. Yes, he won it all in some kind of miracle year where his coordinators did all the coaching, but went 11-11 over his last two years. Maybe, as it turns out, you just don't fully analyze other teams and only highly critique your own? Nah, can't be?

And it has nothing to do with system, but more to do with what roster/situation one takes over. For example, if KNOCK ON WOOD, a new coach took over for Jimbo in 2023, I'd expect them to hit the ground running and win 10-11 games in year 1 with that roster. If a coach took over during the period of 2017/2018/2019, I'd expect 8-5 or so.

Good post. It took 2 seasons to get the Rumlin out of the program. We are poised for a non COVID breakout.

You gotta think the offensive line is going to be greatly improved just by going up against such defensive line beasts everyday in practice.

Beasts breed more beasts.

I just don't see either line costing us games in the next few years, we are definitely going to compete in the trenches every down. If not, there appears to be a next man up type of depth developing.

If this is true it means that Wykoff is pretty damn good So I don't see a downside here.

You do realize we had one of the best OL's in CFB 2 years ago? Several made NFL squads. Hell, Sutherland is the center for San Fran. We've had good OL for awhile now, development is the name of the game. You've got to hold onto some Seniors.
