94 Cotton Bowl was my first Aggie football game. I brought the curse.

*Though they did win every game I went to that Fall, including a trip to Baton Rouge w/ my Louisiana-bred dad.

Back in the early 2000's, ND had pretty much sucked for a while. They had a good year, and ended up getting ranked and climbing then Jim (puke) Rome rolled this comment out on his craptastic radio show:

"Look at Notre Dame, back in the upper rankings of College Football, where college football NEEDS them, and they deserve to be."

I've heard the same crap about other programs like the morning broadcaster that used to be on with McElroy on the now ESPNU morning college football program (when it was good, actually): Can't remember name Brayden Gall maybe: "Look at Michigan, they put their money where their mouth is and just made Jim Harbaugh arguably the highest paid coach in college football. Jim Harbaugh will have Michigan back at the top of College Football, where College Football NEEDS them, and they deserve to be."

This was two different broadcasters/commentators, years apart obviously, but the same train of thought was used for both. Almost the same wording. If this does not tell you that the media, largely, wants certain programs at the top, then I can't help you. These are the same type guys that do everything they can (see the comments above) to influence the mindset that there is a certain group that should be at the top. The same group that used to use the term "Clemsoning". They did not want Clemson in the party, but they forced their way in. If they don't turn it around soon the media will turn on them. It sounds like they have started laying the groundwork for it now. This is the same group that ridiculed us for going after Jimbo, then ridiculed Jimbo as washed up when he came on at A&M. The same group that consistently ranks Texas (t.u.) in the top 20 or top 10 to start the year, every year, even after losing seasons and largely the same personnel. It's a prop-up.

F Notre Dame
F the Blue Bloods
and of course
F t.u. and the media suck-asses that perpetrate this bullcrap.
"Green" is the new RED.

I've never had any issues with Notre Dame. I think their uniforms are the best in football. I think their stadium is awesome. It's an elite academic school. It did piss me off when they started spewing hate toward A&M. I definitely thought that was rich coming from them but I also realize, in the world of social media, the words of a few can make it seem as though they speak for everyone. In the end, I don't root for them but I also don't root against them either(unless it impacts us).

Are you kidding? It was the Notre Dame Vice President for university relations not some anonymous internet troll.

I know. Which proved they are scared AF. They are insecure. We need to embrace their insecurities..

Or, if we're being real, that dude was an out of touch moron who had no connection to the sports program, nor idea who he was quoting.

It will all be settled on the field in 24/25.

Which no one actually connected to their sports program has tried to duck.

That bozo must have received his talking points from his butt-buddies in Austin. A&M will kick the crap out of them when they come in a couple of years, and then do it again on our trip to see TD Jesus.

Most of the SEC loves then due to the easy, padded wins (whether regular season or bowl games). Why Brian Kelly left....yeah, salary, but to get out of that entitled atmosphere that makes it difficult to really compete (paper domers).

I think real reason is more (I) that they are Catholic university, (ii) they are independent and (iii) they have national tv deal.

I don't hate ND. Actually, football wise, I don't give them much thought. I think that is because they are not competing to win any conference on annual basis.

That's funny. I don't like Notre Dame because I'm Catholic. Some parents still pay to send their children to Notre Dame under the illusion that their child is receiving a Catholic education. Most large "Catholic" universities now have a large element of apostasy. Their faculty by and large resent Catholic orthodoxy.

I don't have anything personally against ND and as a CFB fan I like their history and watching them play when they have a big game..... but overall their schedule is soft and they are always overrated and benefit from their name and history vs. what they accomplish on the field.

ANY other team with the exact same resume in 2020 A&M makes the CFP over that team, but not ND.

They probably have the best game of opening weekend.... and will probably move up in the rankings after the lose by 20+...

As a fan of CFB I love to think about the times when as the ND head coach Bob Davie would regale the ND fans about stories of A&M traditions while they fumed that he wasn't talking enough about the gipper and Rudy.

Quote:

Fans were not excited about Davie's promotion. His habit of referring to the traditions of Texas A&M University rather than those of Notre Dame alienated many fans.[4]

I don't have anything against ND. The people I personally know who are associated with the school are some of my favorite people. I just resent the unbelievably favorable treatment they get from the media and now from the CFP committee. My hate goes toward the people and entities giving them that treatment, not directly to them.

Here's my Norte Dame story. April 2002, we'd beaten them at Kyle Field the previous season. Mrs. Jim and I are at Norte Dame taking in the sights. Beautiful campus. We're in the bookstore buying souvenirs and I have on my Aggie jacket. Some guy about my age at the time comes up to me and asked me if I went to the game, and we start talking football. Everything's going just fine until I made the mistake of telling him I was disappointed they didn't bring the band. Guy goes ballistic and informs me, we wouldn't bring our band to a little school like that and if there's something you like about it, let's go outside. Sorry, but even 20 years ago, my football fighting days were way in the past.

In the '70s,
Quote:

In the 80s & 90s they were on TV every freaking Saturday across the nation…they had a huge advantage and still were mediocre most of the time. Anybody else would have worked that into multiple championships Screw the ND favoritism .
Early on, it was a time when there was not near as much college football on TV as there is today. Nothing close. So to have a game - even one game a season in some cases - on TV was a big deal for a program.

It is why the SWC moved the 1975 Texas A&M/Arkansas game from midyear to the end of the season - to get a coveted TV slot. And as we all know, an undefeated, second-ranked Aggie team, coming off a big win the previous week over t.u., laid an egg in cold, wet December Little Rock. Chance at a natty crushed. Meanwhile, here's Notre Dame with its exclusive NBC contract and a game a week every freaking week of the season ...

No, no bitterness.

Hate those freakin' domers.

Here's my Notre Dame story. I once worked for a consulting firm who was outsourcing a call center for a cut rate insurance company owned by ND grads. As you can imagine, morale was terrible and most people who had options had already left the company. We discussed various incentive programs to encourage employees to stick around until we could move their jobs offshore. Ultimately the ND grads chose to print cards for every employee (at an insane expense) in Notre Dame colors that described the Notre Dame fighting spirit and included excerpts from Knute Rockne's speech and implored the employees to play like a champion today! Keep in mind, the majority of these employees never went to college. That was a rough ride the next couple of month until they closed the office in south Chicago and moved the company to the burbs.

I guess the company owners thought everyone loved "Rudy". I doubt these folks went to Joliet Catholic, much less Notre Dame.

How do spot a ND grad? Don't worry, they will tell you.

I'm a huge college football history junky, collect a little bit of memorabilia and mostly game day programs.

I have somewhere around 300 ND programs. The history of the program is something I'm a fan of going back to Rockne, the gipper, frank thomas, ara, grantland rice, four horsemen and the list goes on.

They do get preferential treatment and chances are that will never change.

Not football, but remember when our women's basketball team won the NC over ND? Was I the only one who noticed the confetti that rained down on team was in navy blue and gold? Coincidence? Guess the NCAA thought they knew who would win the game. I wasn't mad about it, but it did amuse me.

You weren't the only one. Navy, gold, and green confetti from the rafters. I noticed it when it happened. Either someone flipped the wrong switch, or the Final Four really didn't think our women had a chance.
