TLDR: A&M used to have a song called Farmers Fight, then it disappeared? what happened to it? What did it sound like?

I have always heard of this song "Farmers Fight" but I've never actually seen or heard it in any form. And I don't know why it would have just disappeared...

Even the t.u. talks about it as the inspiration for their song:
"Long before I entered The University of Texas in 1909 and until about the year 1928 the Aggies had one of the most effective and awe inspiring songs used by any student body anywhere any time. 'Farmers Fight' at that time was their sacred College song," Hunnicut wrote in a 1952 letter. "It occurred to me that an effective way to strike back at the Aggies was to write a 'Texas Fight' song in answer to their(s)."

It is like it vanished to history/time.
It supposedly was to the tune of taps also, but slower and more menacing.

What happened to it? Does ANY audio exist of it?

Farmers Fight, Farmers Fight
Farmers Fight, Farmers Fight Farmers Fight,
Farmers Fight, Farmers Fight,
Farmers Fight.

That song was replaced by the Spirit of Aggieland in 1925-26

FYI: the beginning of Texas Fight is a sped-up version of TAPS

But was that it?
Just "Farmers Fight" over and over? Surly there was more to it.
I had wondered, based on the coinciding creation of the Spirit of Aggieland, if some the original lyrics (primarily the yell) was the song Farmers Fight...
Because if you compare The Spirit with Texas Fight it kind of matches-ish as far as transitioning from song to a yell ect. And the end of The Spirit definitely sounds like something you would do for a fight song instead of an alma mater imo.

And if t.u.'s story of their songs origin is to be believed, they took out "Farmers" and added "Texas" so would have been something like: (*******izing by mixing The Spirit with Texas Fight)

Farmers Fight, Farmers Fight,
Goodbye to varsity
Farmers Fight, Farmers Fight,
We're from Texas AMC
(Maybe more)
(Yell)
T-E-X-A-S... A-G-G-I-E
Fight! Fight! Fight-fight-fight!
Fight! Maroon! White-White-White!
A-G-G-I-E
Texas! Texas! A-M-C!
Gig 'em, Aggies, 1-2-3
Farmers fight! Farmers fight!
Fight! Fight!
Farmers, farmers fight!

But even if it's JUST "Farmers Fight" over and over... I'd love to have heard it. And I'd love to bring it back if it was intimidating as people say it was...

This is amazing, I had never heard this. Thanks OP for bringing this history up.

Anyone have further on this? It would be incredible if someone can find actual audio of this. If not, we may need to ping the Cushing Library Archives.

I love the idea of bringing it back but I think it would be almost impossible to do. A hundred years ago there were fewer students and most of them were probably farmers. Lol. Unfortunately, A&M is slowly losing some of what made it great to begin with. I think most of the newer alumni would prefer to distance from our Agricultural and Mechanical days. The millennials and Gen Z are too hip for that. I'm sure we would still be doing it if it never stopped but it'll probably just have to be a thing of the past.

I know. Old man yells at cloud.

I imagine it became a lot less fun to hear if it is a slow version of Texas Fight, particularly when they won so much from post WW2 to the 70's.

Just think of all the younger Ags who are going to have to learn the Texas BITE version when we start playing them again and have to hear that thing after every first down. Hopefully, our defense will shut those down too.

Don't know when it was written but my Dad's class, '47 used to sing "I'd rather be a Texas Aggie."

I still sing it to my 4 year old every night at bedtime.

When I was in the FTAB in the sixties, I remember Col. E. V. Adams '29 talking about this singing of TAPS after we got outscored. He didn't like it at all and that's why he did his best to replace it with the playing of the 12th Man after we got outscored. Time passes and now I think this song is out of the inventory.

Off topic, but curious. You're dad was class of '47 and you have a 4 year old?

Yep, Well, my Dad was 16 (like that makes a huge difference) when he entered A&M and then left for the war shortly after enrollment. I'm class of '80 and wife is class of '98. We've been together 21 years and married 15. We lost a couple babies early in our marriage and then we had our miracle.

It sounded like a Gregorian chant, very similar to what Kansas sounds like when they do their Rock Chalk cheer.

So we'd basically need our whole student body to learn how to do a Gregorian chant. Easy peasy.

As a historian, I approve this message.

At the same time, we must also have more contemporary music, as we had out at Stack back in the day:

We lost a lot of sacred honored traditions with the Swag Movement of the K-Sum era. We went to blaring that hippity hop music and fostered an "Ag Swag" culture which made students feel too cool for Ag School.

Now we have Sips penetrating our ranks enrolling in our better academics than tu offers and a new era of Woke Ags enrolled. Even the Corps leaders are Woke and it's showing when you see how the cadets dress and act on campus.

As we finish with the strongest recruiting class in the nation and in history, we must tighten the shot group and return to the Bear Bryant basics.

Say No to hipsters and hippies trying to Austinify our homeland and return to being the humble and most classiest of class fanbase.

Bring back Aggie Spirit, a sense of loyalty and respect for the school and its traditions and values. From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. From the inside looking out, you can't explain it. Don't tread on our Aggie Land!
