Everyone had drop issues last year trying to catch high fastballs from that garbage QB.
this is the trap...that the NFL scouts have seen through.

A&M went 8-4 for many reasons. Calzada's play really hurt in the Arkansas loss.

but in the other 3 losses...many "highly regarded" players contributed to the loss via poor play (besides the QB)

Jalen will have to earn his way onto an NFL roster like Arian Foster or James Harrison, both undrafted. Or maybe a team spends a 6 or 7 on him since was productive in college and 40 time isn't that important to actual play of a TE.

Dropped passes and issues with blocking are very important of course. He could still end up as a top 10 NFL tight end eventually.

For reference here is that "steady downward trend". Look at that drop-off in production.

What's cut off in your screenshot is the number of games:

2019: 12 games
2020: 10 games
2021: 12 games

"Steady downward trend"? Not from 2019-2021, but he definitely peaked in 2020 and trended downward in 2021.

While true Calzada only completed 12 passes against MSU, had ZERO TDs against OM. He played well enough to beat LSU (even though he took 4 sacks) but the other two games he was flat out terrible.

When players leave the declare for the draft and leave the program there they know they are giving up safety of the known for the unknown. At that point its up to them how hard the work to meet their goals.

However part of that decision making process are the draft assessments provided by some "expert". Presumably those experts will be looking at the a comparable body of film that the NFL would review and presumably they will be looking at the measurables of the individual player. Vertical jumps, long jumps, shuttle run, 40 times....they should be able to measure those up front as part of that assessment process. How could he be surprised the "average" film assessments? That should have been evident months ago. If the experts were thorough how could he be surprised by his lackluster measurables?

It 's not just his 40 time, he got a problem between his ears. He can't seem to understand for whatever reason that you need to play the game with urgency. He never did that in any game I can remember. Yeah, he caught some balls and made a few good plays from time to time, but they weren't consistent. He just never seemed like the game was that important to him. Hope I'm wrong, but I said early on last year that he lacked intensity and focus. Traits you need to succeed at the next level. I wish him well.
