Serious question, why does anyone want King to actually play in this game?

I agree. I'm mystified by the adulation of King at this point. I think Bost has the potential to be good. I've seen his high school film and it's quite impressive. The fact that he's a walk-on means absolutely nothing. The guy that smashed major passing records today at Western Kentucky only got a scholarship from Houston Baptist before he transferred. Major oversight from the big schools.

How competitive do these have to be knowing the class coming in? You have to assume they're playing for starting positions. Haynes/Bost included

Let WF keep guessing.

Right here! Why show your hand at this stage? Even if King was 100% I wouldn't let WF know.
Yeah, but what would they be guessing at. There isn't enough video of either player for them to scheme.
Well, I mean, ok, but suppose the WF sensei watches video and sees which leg King broke. What if he dials up a CB blitz and tells his guy to sweep the leg?

I think this is being treated the same way an NFL team approaches a pre-season game.

I think it's being treated the same way an NFL team deals with a QB injured during a game. You have two active QBs. You start the one that gives you the best chance to win without sacrificing your season.

Fisher will only start King if he is fully healthy. We don't need to rush him back only for him to get hurt worse. Who knows maybe Bost will have a hell of a game. I still don't understand the love affair with King. After his first 2 starts this season and like 4 or 5 interceptions not sure why everyone is so high on him. I hope King is the GOAT but it seems likely that Johnson will start next year with King or Weigman backing up.
He was credited w/3 and 2 of those were clearly on the WRs having stone hands and 1 was just him trying to force a pass in to too tight an area. It's not like he was sailing the ball all over the place.

This is a meaningless bowl game so Jimbo Fisher knows there's no reason to rush King's rehab if his leg is not fully healed or he is not fully in game shape.
Both of which could place him at higher risk of another injury.
Or render him ineffective.
I don't see any harm in Bost playing.
And with Johnson coming in next year...if Bost plays halfway decent he may get a shot at playing at another school on full scholarship..and i wouldn't blame him for entering the portal.
If he does well...good for him.

Agree with all of those things except the first. No game is "meaningless".

Don't start going down the Dan Mullen road of excuses saying that the bowl game doesn't count because this year's team has already played its last game. The bowl game means the world to Bost and to the guys who''l be playing their hearts out to prove they can start next year. Honestly, I'm excited to see what the team can do playing with one hand tied behind their back.

I agree the game is not meaningless to Bost...thats why in my post i said i hope he does well to earn a scholly at another school.
So yes...i should have phrased it a little better.....opt-outs notwithstanding.

Jimbo said Bost is starting.
Now let's say Bost plays a Great game and leads A&M to an impressive victory.
What are you gonna say then?

Bost is the starter next year and Weigman will hit the portal. Duh.

4d chess. All a smokescreek for Weigman and Johnson in 2 qb sets after the first drive w/Bost

He needs the in-game reps and we need to win.

Don't give me this cr*p that the game doesn't matter or that he could get hurt. He could get hurt the first snap next year.

But I want to clarify, I only think he should play if he is healthy. And I have no idea if that is the case.

I am sure Jimbo would like to add another bowl victory to his W-L record.
But we don't desperately "need to win" this game.
Our No 1 ranked recruiting class is not going to leave because we lost to a decent WF team with a 3rd-string true freshman walk-on at quarterback and several key opt-outs.
Wake may not have any opt-outs.
Everyone...recruits...current players...media...coaches...they all know we could lose this game due to our current situation.
Do we want to win? Of course. But it will not affect us one way or the other in the long run.

That's what Florida thought last year before their bowl game and then they went on to lose their bowl game and have a miserable year and the coach fired.

Teams winning their bowl game statistically have much better follow-up years than teams losing their bowl games.

For example....
Since 2000, A&M has a .677 winning % the year after they win their bowl game.
This drops to .625 the year after losing their bowl game.

Just because Haynes is getting practice reps does not mean he's ready to play in a game… why risk getting him hurt again in a meaningless game? Bost will play and king will be good for next season.

So just what is the plan to guarantee victory with a 3rd string true freshman walkon and numerous key A&M opt-outs?
Are you gonna go give a great "motivational speech" to Blake Bost to magically transform him?
I mean the kid has a decent arm and some decent high school tape from his senior year last year....but he has no meaningful snaps this year.
I do not predict a Dan Mullen/Florida debacle next year.
And i think our current players and our recruiting class is smart enough not to judge A&M's entire future based on the fact that we may lose a game with a 3rd-string freshman walkon and numerous key opt-outs.
And those aren't excuses...that is just the reality of the situation.
This Florida/ Dan Mullen hand-wringing about future games is at best grossly pre-mature...and at worst just inflamed BAS at it's worst.
The program won't die because we lost this game. Way off base.
