Sumlin was in over his head here and at Arizona State. His emphasis on raw talent and minimal development is a loser.

Does Prairie View have the resources to make it all about glitter and shine? If not, they won't have sustained success under Sumlin. I like a good redemption story; however, the odds would be stacked against them with Sumlin leading the charge.

I might've agreed if it weren't for Hubenak's tell-all.

So instead, I've nothing against Kyler and Kyle.

That said, I hope Sumlin has changed and does right by the players at PV. If he hasn't changed, I hope they see him for what he is and let him go quickly.

No! PV only has a few things going for it:

1. The band
2. Proximity to Houston
3. HBCU

Sumlin will have to sell Houston and other TX kids on staying close to home at a HBCU. I don't think he can.

I for one hold nothing against Sumlin, it's not like he blew up that QB room on purpose. Also, it's always fun to cheer for the Panthers. I hope this works out well for both parties.

He walked in to Keenum and Johnny...According to Kliff, if I recall correctly, while at Houston he wanted nothing to do with Johnny out of Kerrville. All Johnny did was make a real bad coach, a whole lot of money. I think PV exceeds his skill set, maybe Waller High...

It's PVAMU, not Notre Dame. They play in the SWAC, not the BDF. They don't recruit the same caliber of player the SEC does. They get a lot of attention for the annual Texas Southern game in Houston.

He would do well there. They are part of the A&M System and get a good chunk of money. They get a big payday every five years to play in Kyle. A big name there would help a lot.

This. Just look what it did for JSU.

Sumlin needs to stay away from Prairie View. They have a history of "strongly encouraging" their football coaches to only hire "diverse" coaching staffs. Most of the other HBCUs aren't like that and don't care about the staff make up as long as you're winning games. Sumlin might be a big enough name to change things and challenge those in power, but I bet he has better options available. Honestly, I'd discourage any coach from going there if they have any other options.

That would be a bad hire for PVAMU as the HC must be able to actually coach Xs and Os and understand offense and defense, not just be a gum chewing glorified recruiting coordinator who doesn't understand how football games are actually won and lost.

How Arizona hired him I'll never know, pedestrian due diligence would have revealed that the emperor had no clothes...

After the Arizona meltdown, I think this type of job is all he can hope for to try and rebuild his reputation as a coach. It would be perfect for him and I wish him good luck!
