I guess I am just too old fashion. I really enjoy watching the conference championship games. It just gives a little more definitive Ness to who the conference champion is.

If we have a team from the east and a team from the west both go undefeated 12-0 who do we say is the conference champion? Just IMO
HEY!!!!! SAVE ME SOME!!!!!

Yea, once they ruin the best regular season in any sport for money, it won't matter. We can just all watch the playoff tournament and ignore regular season like 99 percent of us do with college basketball.

The reason most of us watch college football and not college basketball is because football >>>>> basketball or any other sport, at every single level. It has nothing to do with the type of regular season. It's the best HS, college, and professional sport.

If basketball went to a 2 or 8 team playoff and sent the rest of the teams with winning records to glorified exhibition "MegaBowl" type games for its post season, I still wouldn't watch.

Not everyone shares your view. There aren't any college football "pools" out there. March Madness is a pretty big deal whether you like it or not.

Similar issue with the OP: you're using ONE SEASON to dictate policy like this poster is using one opinion (which is nowhere near universal).

Of course not everyone shares my view. It's why dozens of you would choose WNBA over college football.
March Madness is a pretty big deal doesn't change my opinion that football is the preferred sport to watch over any other sport for the majority of posters on a college football message board forum. Popularity and viewing numbers would also suggest that a majority of Americans also prefer football to other sports, and it has very little to do with the type of regular or post-season. I hate the college football post-season system. I hate the cupcake regular season games. But I'm still choosing to watch football in spite of these blemishes. I like college softball & baseball's post-season. I like March Madness. But, like many fans on a college football message board forum, i rarely watch those sports in their regular season. I'm suggesting that people who claim they don't watch college basketball regular season games, and blame their post-season would actually not watch their regular season games even if the post-season tournament was 4 teams or 128 teams.

Eventually the championship game will determine seeding for the playoffs. With 2 at large bids at least.

You will have at minimum 4 teams and possibly 6 in tournament from SEC.

These guys like Kelly know unless you can recruit like the SEC it won't matter, you'll still lose in playoffs even at ND.

USC is a crapshoot because they can recruit at close to the same level with the right coach. No one currently in the big 12 or ACC can recruit with the SEC. Clemson is the only one close and Dabo will bounce as soon as Saban retires.

The Big 10 can compete but won't have the same number in the playoffs. They'll get 2-3 max in a 12 team playoff and typically only the Big 10 winner will even have a shot at winning it all based on talent level for each given season.

USC will compete in recruiting and they'll have a top 10 recruiting class next year, maybe even this year. That's saying something starting in the 60's where they've been so far in 2021. Lincoln Riley is probably the one coach who I can think of that would get that kind of excitement. Look at how many top QBs and other players no longer have to leave CA to go to a playoff contender. USC will own the PAC 12 and will be in the playoffs each year starting next season, maybe the one after that. Make no mistake, though, they made the right hire.

You understand that is gives an opportunity that otherwise might not be there. If we, for example, had made it to the championship game as a two loss team this year, we would not be in a playoff spot without winning the SEC championship game.

You can't keep shifting your opinion of the system based on a myopic viewpoint of your team each year.

Championships are good.

And OK State, by the way, has to play in one this year, so not even sure what you are thinking in your OP.

The SEC Championship Game makes tons of money for every school in the SEC. It is not going anywhere.

Some truth but not entire story. Right now we get wrapped up in every game, partially because of magnitude. Makes it so fun. Can't miss one because that could be it!!

Like with NFL,I can miss multiple games a year and I do, because it really doesn't matter. I don't miss an Aggie game.
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

Agreed. A big reason why I think expanding the playoffs will ruin college football, it takes away the importance of every single game.

The reason to expand the playoffs is to increase the magnitude of games like LSU and PV A&M, which really had nothing riding on it except to see if Ed would win while exiting and what city would be taking A&M fan's money for the bowl game.

Again, the reason people are more wrapped up in the outcome of an Aggie FB game is biggest that is where their greatest emotional and financial investment is, and it is for many on here, their favorite team to watch.

People were wrapped up into every game, even in the old BCS era when Sherman lost a 4 OT game to K-State and the team had been eliminated from BCS conversations for about a month and a half.

The conference championship games are essentially College Football Play-in games, unless a conference has been eliminated from CFP contention. Cincinnati and Oklahoma State still need to win their respective conference championship games to get into the CFP. They are both favorites, but upsets can happen in these games.

Cincinnati and the pokes are also playing in their conference championship. Only ones with this would be non conference teams like ND, BYU and so on.
