I am with Jimbo so take a hike. Players need to execute consistently and with toughness. Jimbo cannot play for them.

Jimbos seat is barely room temp. He's got a fully guaranteed 100ish million dollar contract.

I want to see jimbo roll left in 3rd and 2 and try to throw a one yard pass.

That 2012 11-2 season for Sumlin was inherited. If you have to pick any specific names for success that year you need to pick Kliff and Johnny. Sumlin got progressively worse every year. Jimbo hasn't and won't.

So overnight he's no longer the hottest coach for LSU to steal?

I bet LSU fans wish that they weren't firing Coach O.

That's not exactly fair using the 2020 abbreviated season to total wins.
Especially when it was the cupcake games that were cancelled.

Turning against?

I am not sure that phrase means what you think it means.

I don't care what his intentions were. If facts upset you, well I can't really help.

Very disappointing. When do we draw the line in the sand? And what is that line? 9, 10, 12 wins? Is next year a pass too? Do we give him 3 years to develop this incoming recruiting class?

Lol. Who are we going to get in a market where other big programs can't get who they want and small programs are paying just as well to keep the hot coaches?

Jimbo is our coach for foreseeable future.

Probably 10 years in answer to your specific question. I'm sure Sharp's goal is very much to localize the negativity specifically to the football program so its irrationality is easier to see.

The notion changing coaches at a whim works well is of course false. So Sharp is seeing if a good coach given sufficient time can install a philosophy that is at all self-sustaining. I'll note Bear Bryant did not and Wooden tried a bit harder and is specifically remembered by his very loyal players for his efforts to do what Jimbo (and Buzz) are doing here. Seeing the same criticisms against both of them actually suggests their approaches both likely are on schedule. But we will be forced by the Administration to give them adequate time by contracts specifically designed to pour emotion from the hot teacup into the saucer and let it cool.

Maybe the approach will work at least to give the school a broader set of communication tools at the very least. Coaches being afraid of their fans can't possibly be a productive framework after all now can it??

For starters, stop comparing him to Sumlin. Or if you must, please compare the blowout losses. Sumlin didn't get untroubled for his record alone. It was being unprepared and getting his doors blown off with regularity.

True but playing at times is atrocious, same with the defense. Why wasn't Clemons over #72 on the last drive of the game? Even Jordan was questioning this.

Unhappy with the final game. But Jimbo is still ok and needs to get the OL and QB working right. He had a mediocre 2nd string QB and a weak OL that never was trusted.

Defense was hot and cold.

The same dorks that pitched and promoted Fisher to LSU now reveling in Fisher's embarrassing loss to the coach they said he would replace. Sports journalists are as hypocritical as the political press.

Sports media are some of the dumbest, most hypocritical types there are....like some people that you see on message boards.

"We?" Didn't realize we had a member of the BOR posting here on Texags!

Go ahead and get rid of him and get …. Cmon, who? Seriously, assume you can get anyone (except saban) and who would you get?

You don't want a new coach you want wins. No, you don't. You want a national championship. And don't say "I want better doesn't have to be #1" because we finished 5 last year and that wasn't good enough.

In many ways the bcs playoff was the worst thing ever for cfb. Instead on enjoying every game, win or lose, and remembering it is just a game to watch and enjoy instead it is #1 or fire the coach and try again. Forget what that instability would do to your program (looking at you sips).

I'm not done with this team. I'm done with the bandwagon fans. A&M taught me a lot about life and how to deal with hardships, and it didn't include running from potential solution to potential solution just hoping one might work.

Edit. Your tag is TMF which I suppose may mean you have ties to the 12th Man Foundation, so maybe it is "we". If "we" are looking for advice on a general football forum then "we" are in horrible shape, and I have no hope for the future of A&M athletics. No wonder we can't hire a successful coach if "we" are listening to texags!

Yep. This was the record that we earned. And physically, I like where the program is headed. If you had asked me whether I'd rather be 10-2 with another blowout against Bama, or 8-4 with a win against Bama and competitive in every game, I'd take where we are. These losses hurt, but I don't think they derailed anything. We are as physical as anybody, and after replacing 4 OL, the expectations of 11-1 were too high. I think this team is close. Mediocre QB play and average OL play hide a lot of really good things.

Possibly. But it really is just lack of thought and depending on outdated notions of which programs have more fans. we continue to expand our base of committed favs of the school. And more than 30K each year…or about 7,500-10,000 per class I estimate…has been season tickets holders at least one year prior to graduation.

I'll be honest: if you liked Jimbo when we hired him, you probably have come to truly appreciate his approach as you e listened to his pressers and radio shows. He strikes me as exactly the kind of person we need representing our school as head football coach. And the outcme last year shows what is possible even if this year was less satisfying.

He's going to get time. It might look like Ferentz or Fry at Iowa by the time he finishes here. It might become a national championship machine. But there are zero shortcuts to greatness. Look at Urban Meyer to see how the opposite approach atrophied once he stepped down.

One or two bad play calls in a game doesn't warrant hiring an OC. If Spiller simply ran for the first instead of out of bounds on the play before then we win the game and nobody says anything. Was that Jimbo's fault?

but 2012 still counts. A&M is not giving the wins back from that season.

and in what universe did the program not backslide from 2020 (9-1) to 2021 (8-4)?

A&M just lost to a 6-6 LSU team

Reason I knew this game was an ABSOLUTE must win for this program from an image standpoint alone. We all knew this was coming. And simply have to sit back and take the abuse.

Jimbo certainly deserves some criticism for not having his QB room close to ready (no specific player necessarily) and being hard headed in some of his offensive schemes.

But no doubt that Jimbo is one of the VERY few coaches that knows how to develop a program. I just hope that he considers making some changes on his offensive approach. I have always thought his pro style is too demanding and overly complicated. This is especially true nowadays. Why? Younger players demand immediately playing time or hit the portal. The days of Fisher being able to develop players for 2+ years is slowly eroding away in modern college football
So at some point, you must adapt too.

So my complaint is focused purely on his offensive pro style offense and at times play calling. This is honestly just one of many roles for Jimbo. But as a HC or CEO of this program, I wouldn't ask for anyone else outside of Nick Saban. He has built an amazing culture and is an elite recruiter. His staff is pretty amazing but he may need to consider making a few tweaks on the offensive side.

Few are able to turnaround a program in 4 years and even fewer are able to maintain that dominance. I do believe in Fisher and the process. I just hope Fisher is willing to modify the process as we are seeing learning opportunities to better ourselves for next year.

Go Ags!

You can't give someone $100 million guaranteed and also make him a makeshift undated national championship trophy and not deserve all this.

I didn't like Jimbo when we hired him.

I think this season was disappointing, but he has us trending in the correct direction (other than win total, which will come).

Quote:

I remember in the 1995 season at the beginning of the season we were touted as going to the fiesta bowl - ranked number three - I fell into the hype - season tickets - trip to Colorado - trip to tech - we lose to Colorado and then tech with Zach Thomas killed us and then the nail in the coffin lose to Texas - very similar hype at the beginning and through the season. We finished 18th.

That team didn't have a backup quarterback for the entire season though who I might add barely played a down in his prior years behind mond. Essentially calzada was thrown into the fire and did pretty well for his first year.

I figured out that this is a game and not to believe the hype in anything - quit listing to the hype and just cheer for the Aggies - sure you can wish for and speculate but taking it out on everyone is not right - do you do this blaming every one thing at work or at home -I feel sorry for you if you do- sure it's heart breaking and gut wrenching - no one likes defeat and everyone likes success-
no one can say these kids and coaches didn't try their hardest as y'all are not in their shoes. They will get better as experience will be gained and then the nay sayers will turn into supposed die hards. Seen it all before.
