Where would you place everyone (with current trajectory as a factor)? My opinion:

Elite: Bama, UGA
On the cusp: A&M, Auburn, Ole Miss
Dangerous: MSU
Has-beens: Florida, LSU, Tennessee
Little engines that could: Arkansas, Kentucky
Whipping boys: Missouri, USCe, Vandy

Honestly,

It's bama and UGA as elite, with A&M on the cusp of being elite

Ole miss and miss st are dangerous teams but they have ceilings and will never be elite

LSU and Florida are talented but underachieving

Tennessee is a potential riser

Kentucky and Arkansas are overachievers that will come back down

Auburn is good but stagnant

Mizzou, USCe and vandy are bottom feeders

There's a lot to like about Vandy. They've been in there loyally slugging away since the conference was created, they're a class act with wonderful fans, and NO fair-weather tee shirt fans. A fine institution, give 'em credit.

Vandy actually has the no. 40 recruiting class last I checked. It's not necessarily that they're total pushovers, they just have the misfortune of playing 10 teams every year who have top 30 talent. They've got a few players, but theyre a case study in what a Big 12 team would look like in the SEC: doormats.

"On the cusp of being elite" = aint done sh*t

The good:
-We beat a surprisingly human Bama team this year.
-We have a top 5 recruiting class (and climbing) to look forward to.

The bad:
We are an average SEC West team right now. Until we prove otherwise, that's what we are. We had 3 losses to teams in our own division, with 2 of those being to average teams. All 3 of those teams had inferior talent compared to us. Make excuses all you want about king getting hurt but there is no evidence that he was Johnny Football 2.0.

I hate to be negative but Jesus y'all count so many chickens before they hatch.

Seriously! Enjoy this team and program for what it is. It's definitely improving and the future looks bright, but we lost to some mediocre teams and beat some very good teams. That's what we are right now.

We have a Post of the Day can we also have a Jackass Post of the Day/Week? This one would be a frontrunner.

It takes 3-4 years of elite recruiting and coaching adjustments to get to Alabama/Georgia level. I'm gonna enjoy the rest of this season for what it is. Suggest you go find your instant gratification somewhere else.

It's year 4 and he's had 4 top 10 classes in a row. Has ole miss? Has miss st? Has Arkansas? With our current talent level we shouldn't be losing to those teams, even when your starting QB goes down. Lack of QB depth is on the head coach especially when he's considered a "QB whisperer". There should be somebody on the bench that can at least make a decent decision with the football for more than 1 game.

Mizzou has a top 15 recruiting class

Really outside of vandy (and even franklin proved its possible to be annoying) any sec team can be obnoxious and it will ebb and flow based on cash, in the last decade mizzou and usce have been in the top 10

Not being negative, I like jumbo a lot. I'm just being a realist here. It takes top 3 or top 5 "elite" talent to win a NC or SEC championship, but not to beat the Mississippi schools and a rebuilding Arky.

Lsu played a) better on Defense against Bama and b) better on Offense & Defense against Ark than we did! Let's get mad and stomp PV and Lsu to closeout this narrative.

Why this site is becoming more and more worthless.....only on Texags do we self-annoint.

We are on a good trajectory, but beat LSU....and then continue beat them (and the teams we should). BUT, this dang conference and their teams won't sit still as everyone will constantly try to improve (Pigs think they are turning the corner, MSU thinks they are turning the corner...same as Ol Piss and UT).

We have to take back Kyle (never lose at home...never) and learn to win >75% of our SEC West road games. We are getting closer, but consistency is beyond difficult.

Frankly, LSU still doesn't 'fret' playing A&M and think they still can beat us regardless.

In terms of geography and demographics, Carolina is basically exactly like Clemson. In terms of $$ they passed Clemson about 10 years ago. If Dabo coached there instead I think he'd have practically identical results, like if Bryant and Saban had coached at Auburn instead.

I also believe that Arky, Miss and State can be elite with elite coaching, but they'd have to have the $$ to keep them around and happy, especially with assistant coaches and facilities. Arky has access to whatever the Waltons and Jerrah wanna give 'em.

I'm curious as to how many of you agree or disagree with my take.

Texags logic;
LSU- 3 national championships since 2000 (and played for another), Has been
Auburn- 1 national championship since 2000 (and played for another), on the cusp
A&M- Hasn't come close to a conference championship since 2000, on the cusp

This guy gets it.

We had an outlier year last year, in the middle of the scam-demic, where teams were losing up to half of their starting roster on any given week.

This year, we've lost to 2 unranked teams (and 1 ranked) that don't have half the budget (or supposed "Coaching") that we do.

Hard facts.
