The Jimbo to LSU rumors are being put out there to intentionally diminish our brand and create a distraction. The noise will increase during the next 2 weeks, especially as the LSU game approaches. The rumor I'm hearing, from a friend that also played ball at LSU, is that the actual search is currently focused on 3-4 primary candidates. The coach at MSU, the coach at Baylor (even before this weekend), and Dabo. Peterson, the former coach at Washington, had his tires kicked but that has yet to go anywhere. Dabo, in fact, was described to me as the dream candidate and the homerun hire. Woodward is a smart guy. He knows Jimbo likes it at A&M, is a great fit here, and that he cannot win a bidding war w/ the Ags. Woodward is not going to get into a situation where Jimbo turns him down, potentially creating the perception that LSU is the lessor job vs. a divisional rival. Instead Woodward is doing his part to fan the rumor mill and that gives him the cover he needs to look East to try to land Dabo. Dabo's buyout is only about $5 million. Dabo will apparently want LSU to waive the Alabama restrictions currently in place in his Clemson contract, and this might keep the 2 sides apart. In any event, LSU is planning on making Dabo (not Jimbo) tell them 'no.' I tend to think the coach at Baylor, having previously coached at LSU, would be a very good hire for LSU but I'm told they want to make a very big splash w/ the hire and the Baylor coach probably does not turn enough heads.

Hate to break it to you, but a former player is as reliable as any poster on tigerdroppings.

Good luck getting Dabo, I don't see that happening.

Aranda is their best option imo unless they luck into a home run hire.

I think you are missing out on the joy of LSU bending over backwards claiming they didn't want Jimbo now that it seems clear he is staying at A&M.

Also Dabo is not going to LSU. So the list of coaches not going to LSU is getting pretty long.

Aranda makes the most sense of any candidate I've heard about. Jimbo or Dabo leaving for that program is a comical idea.

Dabo might take it. Lots more money, access to all Louisiana talent and Texas recruits. The dude would absolutely kick azz. I hope he doesn't come.

LitigatorAg is correct. DS is candidate #1. He's the most blue-chip candidate and they need blue-chip; otherwise, you're taking a risk like TU on anyone not named Dabo (Jimbo ain't going by the way). Woodward MUST stop the slide at LSU dead in its tracks NOW, or risk losing further ground to A&M and others, and Dabo would theoretically do that. What does a precise (seemingly no risk) coaching hire cost? If you're LSU, what would you pay to cure your cancer? 7 years / $105MM

Aranda wouldn't just make sense, it would also be a great hire based on his track record. Not quite a Jimbo splash, but would be about as solid as you can get.

And one reason I hope they don't hire Aranda.

What is interesting to me is that Dabo is probably better recruiter than x and o coach. LSU can lock down the state with anyone that the state high school coaches dont hate. The coach that scares me the most if he were to get the job is Billy Napier followed by Aranda.

But they probably wouldn't hire Napier due to the optics of him appearing to be beneath them.

You guys are idiots if you think Dabo is going to LSU. Why play 9 hard games on your way to a championship in the SEC when you could play 3 at Clemson in the ACC? Plus, LSU could never stomach potentially losing Dabo to Alabama if Saban ever walks away and Dabo wants it. As I've said previously, there was 0% chance Jimbo was leaving for LSU (which he emphatically confirmed today) and there is 0% Dabo will be the next coach. Somebody go eavesdrop on your neighbors cousin who rubs elbows with someone important so we can get the next coaching rumor going...

They've got publicly rejected by Jimbo twice this year alone, and everyone elite after him so far too. They won't get Dabo and will be stuck with an average coach. If they didn't want to be made to look stupid and inferior, then they shouldn't have floated Jimbo's name to the media.

"diminish our brand"….Lol. it's building up Jimbo's prestige and making our brand look even better that he wants to stay here. So, Lsu Corndogs are dumb if that was their plan.

Jimbo absolutely crushed whatever hopes Lsu had of getting him or negatively-affecting our recruiting, with Jimbo today emphatically saying he's staying.

Thats what im hoping for

Jimbo was the first target, he said no no back in August / September… when he got his raise here.

Dabo is a pipe dream, same with Lincoln Riley, they're smart enough not to take it.

Bob stoops(?) he might take LSU or UF if he wants it, maybe the Michigan job if it's offered.
Napier is a good coach, hope he doesn't take it
If Mel Tucker says no, then my money is on Aranda (which is where I've stated is the best hire they can and should make)

Still have to believe Woodward had his man wrapped up when they cut Orgeron loose. He's too competent as an AD to have done otherwise. But at least it's not Jimbo and we can deal with the rest of the possibilities.

The fact that OP doesn't seem to know the name of "the coach at Baylor" makes me dubious about the whole post.

I dunno: if I were a coach going to take that job, I'd want some kind of written assurances that if the Title IX violations result in program sanctions and/or funding cuts, at a minimum my buyout instantly goes to zero. No one wants to go in and suddenly face several years of that.

Herman and Sumlin's trophy cases says he is correct. Both are good showmen, but proved to be middling coaches.

Please explain the baseball coach search.

Haven't followed baseball coaching situation so I have no idea. Football pays the bills and is the only sport Woodward positively has to get right. But if I'm wrong and he's screwed up the coaching searches for multiple sports, then I'll happily eat my crow with the cayenne pepper hot sauce of your choice
