I know most don't check the Mr. Go 30 Film sessions (or don't find them funny), but Kyler makes an appearance in this brief one.

I don't know why these make me laugh every time.

Well… I'm not gonna sit here and defend those defenses, but 10/10 times I'll take a heisman against those high school defenses over not winning a heisman. Bonus points if I have to give my first round signing bonus back to an MLB team to be the #1 NFL draft pick.
Not sure how MLB pertains to college football stats, but it's your dime.

He is a great player and had amazing stats in college. But, facing little12 defenses is like having cheat codes. It does diminish his accomplishment.
His being an elite baseball talent just shows that he is an elite athlete whose resume can't just be thrown out the window. If we want to punish athletes for playing bad defenses, let's punish the last 2 heismans (heismen?) for playing on freakishly insane offenses that made them look better than they really might have been. Kyler still put up 400+ yards and 3 TDs with no INTs against Bama.
Here is how I throw the elite athlete argument out the window. Neither Brady nor Manning were/are elite athletes. So, doesn't matter.

Accruing huge stats against the little12 isn't that impressive. Baker Mayfield had 4,300 yards and a passer efficiency over 200.

Oh, Calzada put up 300 yards and 3 touchdowns against Bama. Does that make him elite?

I am amazed by his success in the NFL. I was not a believer. Congrats to him.

If Calzada throws for 300 and 3 TDs every week, like Kyler did, yes that would make him elite. Bonus points if he rushes for another 100 and only throws an INT every other week. Kyler was an ELITE college QB. NFL scouts seemed to think so too since he was drafted first, even if his heisman season was against the big12.

Oh, and Kyler put up the same numbers that he did with big 12 schools against Bama in an 11 point loss

Also, Brady and Manning are absolutely elite athletes

Yes, I know he was a fish but still hard for me to believe when Kyler played for A&M he threw 5 TDs and 7 picks, had a completion % under 60% and a Qb rating of 109.2.

For comparison, this year Calzada has 12 TDs and 7 picks and a 122.7 QB rating.

You know the Heisman goes to a college player right?

And the NFL drafted JaMarcus Russell first overall. He must be elite because the scouts thought so.

You were just talking about college players so I don't know why I shouldn't, too. I'll bookmark this thread if you want to officially go on record comparing Jamarcus Russel to Kyler.

Be warned that in his 2nd year as a QB though, Russel went for 162 passing ypg, a 54% completion rate, threw 13 TDs in 15 games, and 8 INT.

On the other hand, Kyler's 2nd season features him currently in the top 5 for MVP odds. I'll let you distinguish between their 2nd seasons on your own and you can decide if you want to make the Russel-Murray comparison, my dude.

Sumlin killed the Aggie spirit. We live and learned. Never again.

Kyler was a true freshman...

I just could never get past the fact that Kyler looked so diminutive when he was on the field for A&M. Just didn't seem right. Thought for sure it definitely wouldn't translate to the NFL. I was obviously wrong, he has made the transition with a splash.

I think these things can all be true.

Murray as a freshman at A&M looked very quick, but had a weak throwing arm and poor on-field results.

Before his injury, Allen was better than Murray that year.

Sumlin and his staff completely mismanaged the quarterback room (and offense generally) causing everyone involved to become disgruntled.

Murray improved significantly in all categories over the next few years, from arm strength to judgment to (likely) maturity.

The OU staff put Murray in a much better position to succeed.

It's astonishing how much talent was on the roster that year… and how poor the results were relative to the talent. Two NFL quarterbacks (Allen and Murray), four NFL receivers (Ratley, Reynolds, RSJ, Kirk), four offensive linemen (McCoy, Eleumenor, Ifedi, Gennesy).

73rd in points, 50th in yards, 25th in yards per play.

That is a prettying damning story of the lack of direction and leadership we had under our prior regime. Definitely changes my perspective a bit on Kyler and Kyle. Thanks for posting.

Honestly surprised so little people here know about that story and are still willing to throw Kyle and Kyler under the bus. The QB controversy was massive not just on here, but in every other Aggie football fan communities also.
