I'm a little conflicted about this.

On one hand, he was thrust into a position he was clearly not ready for. He is catching a ton of crap for being the primary (but certainly not the only) reason for the downfall of this team's season. It sucks to be that guy.

On the other hand, he signed up for this. You don't go play football at a major program and expect people to pity you when you don't perform. Either you excel or you don't play. He just happens to have found himself in a unique situation whereby he hasn't performed, but will continue to play. He's in his third year in the program and should have little excuse for lack of familiarity in the system.

So, as unkind as it might seem, I tend to fall more in the camp that doesn't really feel too sorry for the guy. He's doing precisely what he came here to do. He competed for a starting job, didn't get it, but is now floundering away the opportunity he's fallen into.

Sure. It sucks when people face the reality that they just aren't good enough to realize their dreams. But it is part of life for most.

Maybe if he was a true freshman or some walk on that just wanted to hold kicks and pick up chicks. He wanted to be QB1 and now he has it.

I feel bad for him. I don't envy his position at all, and I hope he finds a way in life one way or another.

Yes. It's not his fault he was recruited, coached, and placed in a situation beyond his capabilities. 100% don't blame him for not having certain abilities. This is 100% on the coaches.

I feel sorry for him because he is just a kid and the coaches need to either do a better job coaching him, or don't put him out there if he can't get the job done… But… Start the game off with an INT, finish the game with SAFETY…. SMDH

Yes I do. He is failing in front of tens of thousands of people. Knowing how bad it feels when I fail only myself, I have a great deal of empathy for him. It can't be easy.

Yes, I agree with this. It's not easy being him. I don't know how I would handle it as his age. So I don't trash Calz. He is just a few years older than my own son and I don't want my son being treated like this. He may not be very good right now but I am sure he is trying his best and wants to win.

That's effin' right.

Blame Jimbo/Dickey for the past three years to not develop him up. If he didn't have the ability to be QB2, he shouldn't have been anointed QB2.

Blame Craig for not producing a WR cast that can support him.
Blame Henson for taking 3-4 games to figure out a lineup that kinda works.

Yes I feel bad for him. Sadly at some point in the season I have felt bad for most of our QB1s. I will never understand people directing anger and hatred at a 20 yr old for not making them happy on Saturday.

He's a QB2 playing in a tough situation.

It's tough. These kids have all kinds of pressure on them, and live much more rigid lives than many of us (not all of us (happy potbangers?)) have to. People don't know the sacrifice D1 athletes go through. It's not easy. It's also not the normal college experience.

Anyone who has played any level of QB behind a bad line feels sorry for him…

He's been given the opportunity of a lifetime to be the starting quarterback at a power five school in the best conference in America.
So far all he's done is crap in his nest. Granted the O line is crap, total crap.
But winners work through adversity and find a way to win. I don't see a winner's mentality in him.
However, I do wish him the best.

He's on scholarship, and probably got some NIL money before the last two weeks. Do not feel sorry for him. He can go play at la tech or something if he wants to play in the right sized sandbox for him

This is all internet tough guy stuff. You have to keep in mind that most posters havnt been in a position like Calzada in any remote capacity their entire life. Most people go through life being good enough and are never in a position where being excellent is required. That's why it's easy for people to hard on someone else like this. They have No freakin clue. They have no idea what it's like to have real responsibility or need to be accountable for something but not have the tools to make it happen.

If Calzada isn't good enough, then why is he here? Who did that? Once he got here, who was supposed to groom and make sure he was ready? Who's job is that?

You can ***** and moan about Calzada but the fact of the matter is that some ******* put him there and then failed him.

People are just sore about the loss. Calzada has a lot of potential but only if winners are helping him realize it. I squarely blame pretty much everyone but Calzada.

I can't get pissed off at my 4 year old because I three him on my lawnmower and he ran into my truck. If he wasn't capable, then I shouldn't have allowed it in the first place or I should have spent more time training g him.
