Do you feel bad for Calzada?

Yes, I have empathy for Calzada. The kid didn't come to A&M to screw up as a QB. I'm convinced he's doing his best to lead this team. Ok, so his best isn't good enough. Bench him for a better player. OOPS! Forgot, we don't have another QB behind him except for a walk on and a guy who's been switched to TE.

How we get in that untenable situation? Ask the 9 million dollar man. Now THERE's a guy for whom I have zero empathy. He had to know what kind of team he was fielding this year (or if he didn't he should have!) and yet he parlayed that crap situation into a huge raise and an extension. Any chance he's regretting that now? I doubt it.

And that comment rolls into the actions of the AD and BOR. They somehow think it's wise to throw huge $$$ at a guy who hasn't won a single SECW championship, much less a conference championship and hasn't even gotten a whiff of the NC. Absolutely no empathy there.

I'd love it if by some miracle Calzada catches fire and wins out. As much as anything, because he could thumb his nose at the haters in the zoo.

Yeah, I feel sorry for Calzada.

As bad as we feel watching him, i guarantee he feels 100x worse. He probably knows the end of his football career is coming soon as well.

Some people just arent cut out to be qbs

He might be but you can thank the jerk that bailed out on him for helping kill his career. Greatness isn't attained alone. Ever.

Yes. He is at a football level not one on this board could even sniff and wants to win more than anyone. Yet all these clowns on Texags think they're experts.

I just hope he doesn't read texags. More than that, I hope his parents don't.

Bull****, he's a D1 Athelete with aspirations of the NFL. Criticism is the price tag, if he can't handle it based on reading TexAgs then he has no business playing the sport. If he gets his feelings hurt by a message board, he has no business playing past HS.

I'm sure he has bad games in Hs where people told him he sucked. This is the cost of being a "premier college athlete" even if it is only QB2 level. It gets worse the higher up you go.

Fans ***** and moan, and QB is a zero sum position you're either the hero or 0. So far he's definitely not the hero, try as he must he's sucked ass so far. No if's ands or butts about it. His suckiness have over shadowed other issues (OL, defensive game plan vs MSST ect).

Long story short he's a D1 QB fan criticism is expected

Edit to add - no QB will ever be perfect we *****ed and moaned at JFF too

So true. The clowns on here act like he is some kind of heinous criminal because he doesn't play QB good enough for them. He's a kid for crying out loud, trying to do his best in a situation with a bad line and poor run game that can't provide him any cover. Cut him some slack--don't take it personal that he isn't that good.

I do, while not believing he can play at this level and getting frustrated at his play during games, once I move on from the game I remind myself he's a kid (and a good kid at that) who is an Aggie.

He also might sprout wings and fly. You think he would/could/might be better in a system that requires the QB to read the defense, find the open receiver and throw an accurate pass on 95% of the plays?!?! He isn't a P5 QB, that is just the sad reality of the situation.

If you guys watched the game and still think Calzada is the issue, then you absolutely don't know football and should just stop posting altogether. Our Defense was horrific. The secondary played its worst game by far. The overall scheme was terrible. That's the issue. Period.

I feel bad for him. He's a loser and has no business running an SEC offense. So if that's what you're looking for, yes, I feel bad for him. But let's not excuse the fact that he's a pathetic QB. We don't need any other reason to have **** program. Losers lose. We need more Vons and Tannehills.

Defense has done more than enough for this team to be 5-0 right now, even with the bad scheme by Elko Saturday night.

No, that doesn't mean it's all Calzada's fault. But better QB play gets us to 5-0 as well. So does better offensive coaching and scheming, especially when having to rely on a backup QB.

Calzada is absolutely a factor in the failings of this team, but he is not the only cause. A lot of it is on the coaching staff for not adapting to this strengths and weaknesses. Also, the offensive line has been nothing short of terrible. Kid hates this, he really wants to win and I don't think any of us are as upset as he is.

I feel bad for the founders of TexAgs. They loved Texas A&M and had a great idea to bring Aggies together.

And now they have to deal with a bunch of zoo crybabies. We get it already. You hate Calzada and you hate losing. WAAAAAAAAA!

The defensive scheme was bad and the tackling was worse. Still, the defense only allowed 24 points. Give us MSU's QB, and we win.

Our defense has played well enough for this team to be 5-0 right now, even with a lack of adjustment from Mike Elko Saturday night. We held Arkansas to 20 total points and Mississippi State to 24 offensive points, including 3 that came off of Zach Calzada's interception. A competent quarterback would have enabled us to score much more than 42 combined points against 3 Power 5 teams and led us a 5-0 start. However, offensive coaching, scheming, and blocking would have also helped, especially with a backup quarterback with a very limited skillset.

Not wanting to wade through Jimbo's latest presser and listen to him talk about that "one missed block" that apparently tanked an entire drive (multiple times)...did anyone ask him, or did he offer up, why he was jumping Calzada and blasting out his eardrum after he ran for the TD?

I didn't go back and look - maybe there were guys running wild in the open on that play...maybe Jimbo told him at some point "you're all we've got - don't risk running it...at ALL" - but the butt-chewing Calzada got from Jimbo after putting the team on his shoulders and scoring seemed to be pretty extreme, given the complete absence of protection he was getting from the OL throughout the game.

I get it - kid didn't do *exactly* what you told him to do. Maybe he did exactly the *opposite* of what you told him *not* to do. But jeez - to dress him down like that after he actually put points on the board? C'mon, coach.

Wasn't that because Calzada wasn't lining up for a 2-pt because he was celebrating? I thought he deserved it.

That press conference shattered the trust between mike gundy and the player he was defending. It was fake outrage that made the player feel beyond insulted and it took years for the two's relationship to be fixed.
