I will say that in the past when we have extended coaches that was usually when the wheels started falling off and the team would slip back to mediocrity. Previous coaches would have one good season, we would jump to extend them and then, for whatever reason, they would start sucking hind teat.

I want to believe this time it is different because 1) Jimbo has proven he can win (Fl St.) 2) The Aggie Administration actually put some money into the program after joining the SEC and are not afraid to pay top dollar for the best coordinators, this has been a HUGE issue in the past. I believe had we kept Kingsbury the Offense would have been even more electric under Manziel. 3) We are recruiting, CONSISTENTLY, at a very high level and getting recruits we normally wouldn't in the past.

I may be totally wrong on this and Jimbo may continue the trend of falling back into mediocrity like Fran, Sherm, and Summy. Something tells me however, that "it ain't like it used to be."

EDIT: According to our own TexAgs the details of Jimbos new deal are this: "Fisher's compensation will bump to $9 million on January 1, 2022, move to $9,150,000 on January 1, 2023, and then will increase by $100,000 each subsequent January 1"

I assumed it replaced his old deal, but don't actually know.

New contract. Pay him 10 million per year. Be on top because it sets a standard of what we expect from the other coaches. Pat Henry's contract should be raised as well. He has done well.

My understanding is that it's a 3 year extension to get him back to the original 10 years. At $90+ mil.

I personally think it's a good move.

I look forward to the abundance of social programs he will enact.

Why not? Our extensions have never backfired before.

Can we at least put a buyout in it for if he decides he wants to get the big head and leverage the NFL or if Sips try and money whip him after Sark and the next sip coach both fail?

These type of coaches only come around every 15-20 years. They got it right when Jackie was hired and basically dominated recruiting for several years even with Tu in same conference because this is a football school. It was also the right hire just like Jimbo due to who their mentors were.

Bottom line, you pay Jimbo what he wants and for how long he wants, not your money.

This won't be the last. No reason the A&M head coaching job shouldn't pay the most.

Jimbo Fisher has raised over $100 million in future facility commitments and even more in future 12th man pledges. This is an absolute bargain.

Coaches like Jimbo, Dabo, and Saban are never paid what they are truly worth to a university. They only get paid what it takes to keep them there. Saban is worth $25 million per year to Bama. Dabo around $20 million. Jimbo, at this point is worth very close to $20 million per year for us.

I think it's the right move, but then again I thought extending Sumlin was the right move and it clearly was not. So don't listen to me.

I guess we're continuing the tradition of completely one-sided contracts that leave the athletic department exposed to huge buyouts if things don't work out. Hopefully Jimbo ends the tradition of making us regret doing so. I think Jimbo is a great coach, but his current contract pays him accordingly.

I'm not saying it's the wrong move by any means, but our administration negotiates unlike any negotiating course I've ever seen. We give things away without getting anything in return. I'm not sure why we couldn't make the contract $9M/yr for the remaining 7 years or included some type of buyout in order to take it to 10 years. Someday I hope to negotiate against the A&M athletic department for a contract of my own.

How about backing up the truck for Elko while we're at it? Elko's money in the bank just like Jimbo.

Honestly, I think Jimbo came here because he knew we were in a better position than FSU, we had the facilities and support he wanted plus he wouldn't have to fight if a crap coach could do so much.

We gave a crap coach/es so much. To any decent coach then A&M is like a freaking producing gold mine that you don't just invest in but instead practically own
