You know what would be really interesting? What if he was about to lose his starting job to an up-and-coming underclassman?

for those raising concern on the academic detriment of leaving high school early let me be the first to inform you that senior year in the TX high school football environment does a lot more harm than good for your brain

Texas UIL rules prohibit using NIL to make money so Quinn will forgo his senior year to enroll at Ohio State and start making money. I know folks on this BB are very concerned about tu and OU joining the SEC, but the most serious and far reaching problem is NIL. So, do you expect the UIL to change their rule? Or more players to opt out?

How is this a true statement?

You have Instagram influencers all over the place? Are you saying you cannot make money while playing high school sports? What is next, we going after the leomade stands?

He's still have his money.

You can make money, you just can't sell your name image or likeness.

State law prohibits it

i am just surprised at the amount of NIL $$$ going to freshmen and players who hadn't played a down yet, just mind boggling.
It's not NIL, its pay for play. No one really cares about his endorsement. These are just rich alumni who have legalized cheating so they can pay to get the best players. This is the end of college football. It's pro football now. For this reason, I predict you'll see incoming freshmen like Ewers getting paid more than upperclassmen.

It's both. Some of these deals are boosters/fans, but some are just advertising deals.

Like this one with Ewers. That $1.4mm is really nothing for this card company and they will make a profit off of it.

That's good for him. I do think this or maybe next season will be the last that resemble the football we're used to. There will be outside influences that get organized, more sophisticated and push the limits of what can be done with the NIL rules. On the inside of programs the haves vs have nots will create a lot of churn. Lots more business decisions vs playing as a team. It's not all bad and it's progress but it will be interesting to have this half-baked professional league.

NIL isn't what 'they' say it is. It is merely unlimited institutionally approved paid benefits.

It's not at all about a fair compensation for the money the schools make on their likeness or abilities. If it was it would only be about profit sharing requirements for schools. And there would be a % that's approved across the board.

With the fact that anyone can now pay an athlete, NIL is just a wide open approval to do what was considered cheating a year ago. Recruiting pitch: "Come here and you'll get a million dollars from someone else". And somehow this is ok.

tOSU had nothing to do with this payment to Ewers.

huh? every person is different. you can't say Ewers provides the same income to tOSU that a left guard does, or a player does to Minnesota.

don't disagree with this, though its no said openly. its a wink wink nudge nudge.

thankfully, none of that happened before NIL changed.

Quinn is 18 he is not 20. He enrolled in an "athlete" cirriculum so he was taking additional classes in summer school, each summer. He only need one class to graduate which he did.

BTW google Quinn Ewers truck.

one hilarious thing...and you know this is going to happen...

let's say NIL was in place 6 years during Kyler's recruitment.

some big A&M booster thru his business would have given him a $1 MM deal...and then he transfers away a year later and takes the money with him
BMX Bandit

How is that different than recruits getting paid under the table and then transferring?

The notoriety and subsequent public humiliation of the booster?

Good point.

And isn't the public humiliation of these jock sniffers a "plus" for the new law?

No, they won't, not at all. The further we get into NIL the more companies will foolishly lose $$ and it will start to dry up.

99.9999999999999% of the population doesn't even know who this kid is much less care about him being involved with or endorsing a product.

You could say the same thing about head coaching salaries but here we are with teams pushing salaries over $10M per year.

i'd wager they still make a profit off this deal (if he goes to a major program) as its specifically tied to autographs he signs and stuff sold. so it doesn't really matter if few know who he is, only that people pay for stuff with his name on it.
