tu vs ou should be played on Thanksgiving Saturday like the rest of the rival SEC games.
My guess is that it will be Texas vs Texas A&M on Thanksgiving since that is a rivalry game with tons of emotion and hate. Just take a look at TexAgs the past few days for proof.

I do wonder if Texas and OU will try to get a stipulation that they still play in early October to keep it at the Cotton Bowl during the state fair.
absolutely they will try. Again, it is tu asserting dominance over the conference. If, as they claim, OU is their real rival - then they play on rivalry weekend. Period.

Or, they will be forced to show us as their true rival.

its quite simple. SEC has rivalry weekend. You play your rival on that weekend. If there is any exception for tu - then we are already beginning to see tu weaseling their way to get things that other teams do not.

tu needs to decide. is OU the rival? or is A&M?

If they get their way for both games, there's your sign. So will Oklahoma play Okie Lite on rivalry weekend?

All I know is a Texas schedule that will look something like this should be Funtime watch

OU
Ags
LSU
Ole miss
Miss st
Arky
Mizzou
Bama
Florida

That's a realistic schedule for a 9 sec game season.

Sometimes you should be careful for what you wish for.

Dorothy you don't play Kansas anymore

The SEC way.....

Money is calculated by eyeballs on tvs.

How many eyeballs will watch A&M v. tu on Thanksgiving?

How many eyeballs will watch A&M v. LSU on Thanksgiving?

Highest number wins. ESPN approved.

ESPN is the reason all this is happening. SECSankey are beholden to them - money talks.

I would think they would try to give the cross confrence game 1 top team and 1 lower team each year. So most of the time Bama and Florida wouldn't be on the schedule the same year for a west team. But it will happen.

Remember when we joined the SEC there were some wonky schedules for the first few years until all of the other commitments were worked through.

Waiting until 2023 gives more time to address those issues for everybody.

Frankly, I just want to play on Thanksgiving- especially if a night game. There was NOTHING better than an awesome turkey dinner and the antivipation of your greatest game later that night.

LSU is in ALL RESPECTS a natural and real rival- I'm okay with either one that week.

We're in much the same boat as Florida is wiith FL St and Ga.

Isn't the Egg Bowl on the night of Thanksgiving? Thought they took our place after LSU threw a fit.

I said "marquis" game. Only 15 people watch the Egg Bowl no matter what day it is played on.

You do realize we play Arky on the same weekend every year at a neutral site? With the exception of last year's late start, it's always played on Saturday, September 20-something.

So tu and OU continuing to play in October at the Cotton Bowl is not some power play by those schools - there's precedent already within the conference to have standing rivalry game like that.

Unfortunately, many on here will react like tu threw its weight around and got the SEC to bend over when the reality is that we already have the exact same type of arrangement with Arky.

I don't care about tu/OU and I'm fine renewing the tu game Thanksgiving weekend as a conference game but I sure as hell don't want to be in the same pod with them - that's my main concern.

These posts are so ridiculous.

They've been our rival for 100 years and are in our freaking fight song.

They will be our rivalry game, as they should.

If you don't have a burning desire to beat the hell outta tu on Thanksgiving, you may have to return your Aggie Ring. I hate that they are joining the SEC, but dammit do I love to beat tu. It's the only good thing coming from realignment.

That, and the hope that Baylor ends up in the Mountain West with Tarleton State.
Digital_Java

No, no, no...enough with the desire to beat a single, specific opponent. Revenge is a blue-collar motivation.

I graduated in '90 and will not be turning my ring in thank you. Times have changed, our coaching, roster talent and goal philosophy have all changed too.

Every opponent is prepared for like it's Bama not the silly dip-sh-t Horns.

I agree with this! Everyone reverting back to I am "so" excited to play them and win yay! This way of thinking changed when we isolated ourselves from them to grow the Aggie Brand for a reason, not show recruits look did you see that we beat them. Really does come across as small.

Need to focus on every team equally and win the SEC. Times change!

This is correct! Go back last year to the CFB Playoffs, ND & OSU made it in. We didn't, it was predetermined by espn who was getting in. The new playoffs will at least stop that cronyism.

Why? It will 100% replace the LSU game.

Gawd I hope not. I want LSU night games to end the season 10 times out of 10

I think the difference is that we would actually prefer the Arky game be a normal game and not on a neutral site.

ou and tu should be treated as any other team in the SEC, the so called Red River Rivalry should just be a regular scheduled game. They will have no more influence than any other program. That goes for A&M vs tu; it should not replace LSU as Thanksgiving game. They are just another SEC member and will be treated accordingly. My big question is how will the SEC align the teams???

We had already moved away from LSU on Thanksgiving. We are going to play Texas annually it may as well be on thanksgiving. Time to put your big boy pants on people.

No. This allows Texas to have their rivalry game with OU at another time. We should force Texas to not play their big game at the state fare. This is a recruiting move. Make them play us at the state fare. If OU is their real rival. That happens in November in the SEC.

You wanted to be here Texas, no your here, no special rules for you.

Our days of playing Arkansas in Jerryworld are numbered.

I'd us to be in a pod with LSU, MSU and OM. tu can be in a pod with OU, Arkansas and Missouri. We need to play tu on Thanksgiving as a permanent rival, and LSU can go back to playing Arkansas that weekend as a permanent rival. We'll give up playing Arkansas annually, but I'm ok with it. We need to go back to playing LSU early in the season.

TU has publicly stated many times that OU is their true rivalry opponent so please AD Bjork do not get outmaneuvered in the scheduling discussions because that is the only chess remaining to be played.

We need to be in a pod w/Lsu, Miss, and Miss St to have continued access to deep south recruiting. We will always have access to TX so let TU, OU, Arky and Mizzu squabble over that collectively.

Any pod that includes Ags, TU and OU together will bake in a predetermined bias in SOS across the expanded league and jeopardize those 3 schools in the 12-team playoff format.
I agree with you post but Bjork has exactly zero say in any of that, just like Byrne didn't when we moved. The board and chancellor are the ones that will have to not be outmaneuvered.
erube
How long do you want to ignore this user?
How can a permanent rival out of pod work with 9 conference games, you wouldn't get thru all teams every 2 years and home and away with all teams every 4?

In the proposals I've seen, there aren't any other rivalries cross pod that would HAVE to be played, except maybe Auburn-Georgia. I'd bank on us being in pod with tu and OU, and either Arky or Mizzou.
